How do you store what you've listed?

Hi all.

I'm going to have a declutter and list loads of stuff on ebay and amazon. I'm not sure how to store it though while it's (hopefully) selling. I live in a small flat, but I've got a big hallway. I was going to get some of the stacking boxes and pile them up in the corner, but I'm not sure if that's the best way to go - mainly in case someone buys something from the bottom box and I'm having a bad ME day and can't lift the others off.

Mainly it's books, cds and craft stuff I'll be selling.

  • Why not list things in the order in which you can access them. Eg: start by selling items A, B & C, store them at the top of the pile. When they've sold and been dispatched, list items D, E & F which are next in the pile.

Or sell the largest, heaviest items first so as soon as they've gone, you have more room.

I tend to wrap my things as I list them so that I know how much it will weigh for the postage price & also I find its easier to store.
I do about 5 items a week & keep them to hand so its easy to post. Once a month I get another load down the loft & start over again.

I have all my stuff to sell in boxes and as I sell them I move them into a different box until paid for, then I get it ready for taking to the post office.

Depending on the quantity of products you have to sell, you might find it easier to do them according to different categories, to make it easier to handle and stop you getting confused about what's been sold and what's not.

most of my stuff is in my room, on shelves, dvd's, books etc. some stuff is boxed/bagged an stored in the spare room or my room.
clothes are left hangin in the spare waredrobe until sold tho.
beanies are all in display boxes so are left there until sold. Anything that has a box, gets packed back up and stored where ever there is room.

I dont usually properly pack stuff until sold unless there's a box for it to go in ie my PSP that i recently sold was packed back in the box the minute it was listed.

I'm currently in a big de-clutter, selling everything on ebay stint, so my room's a bit of a mess dispite loads of stuff being in the spare room. lol.

I can't believe I was so thick as to not think of these ideas!!

I like the idea of having a separate box and gradually moving stuff over to it as they get bids, of course that makes it easier! And saves having to sort through everything and do it in one go at the end of the auctions.

Not sure how many I'll list every time, I've got about a hundred books (although a chunk of them wont sell so they'll be going to the charity shop), and two boxes of craft stuff. I might do the books first on ebay, then ones that don't sell can go on amazon, and then the craft stuff. Especially since the craft stuff will take a lot of sorting whereas the books are ready to go.

When you wrap them ready to be sent, what do you do if the buyer wins multiple things?

I dont seal any of the packages until they are paid for. That way I can bag things up together for multiple purchases.

I bought a cheap wooden shelf unit from the diy shop (meant for sheds and garages) and I store it all on there in piles and boxes.

It keeps it all in one place, and when my eBay days are done we'll use it in the pantry or as a shoe rack or something. (it's in two halves)

I have a shelf for packing materials and a shelf for currently listed items so that as things sell I know where to find them. I also have a "listing next" shelf so that I don't have to think about what to do, I just grab something from that pile and list it.

Once listed it goes on the "Currently Listed or Scheduled" shelf so it's a visual record of my progress as the "Listing Next" shelf empties.

I used to use the same system but in adjacent boxes! :D

mine is stored in boxes and one of these.

I have a box of 'photographed but not yet listed', a box of 'just bought, not even photgraphed yet' and then things that are listed are in the drawers. as they get bids I try to out them into mailing bags unsealed, then wehn they sell i seal the bags etc. It's not a perfect system yet but I'm getting there.
My biggest failing is buying more before i've listed what ive already got.
Still at least now my hobby of car boots is paying its way. I hardly ever buy anythign for me any more, just to resell, but it satisfies my shopping itch.
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(

Thanks for all the tips! I can't really use shelves because where they'd go in the hallway would block the door to my big cupboard that's full of random crap that needs sorting but just gets shoved in there because it's easier. The drawers on wheels would be great there though, and I've seen a few of them on offer in supermarkets lately, so I might give that a go. I'm only decluttering my own stuff though, not making a habit of it (although given my habit of recluttering it might well turn into a vicous cycle!), so I don't need loads of space, just somewhere to shove the books while they're listed.

I don't think I'll dare go to another car boot, I went today and spent a fortune (well, £15), got some bargains, but I could easily end up spending far too much!
