I'm confused about thermostatic bath shower mixers

Situation is....

Double ended bath.

Electric shower over one end, fed from it's own pipe off the mains pressure cold pipework.

I also want some sort of bath tap / thermostatic shower mixer thing to go on the wall in the centre of the bath but I'm getting confused over my options.

My original thoughts were something like this on the wall....

GroheEcostat1001.jpg

But I'm now wondering if I can have more of a concealed set up with just something like this..

talentofillimage.jpg

but don't know if that's feasible and where does the shower bit come into that??

Found this.....Showeroutlet.gif......so is that the kind of thing I can have anywhere on the wall for a hand held shower like this...

Shower.gif

I'm considering the Grohe Talentofill but am concerned it will jut out too much in the centre of the bath. I dont know what an alternative bath filler would be though, especially with the concealed thingy above.

I'm supposed to be ordering this tomorrow but I'm going round in circles here.

All I know is I want something (preferably wall mounted) that will fill the bath and has a hand held shower attachment (preferably thermostatic). It needs to be good quality and look streamlined and classy. I'm not overly concerned about cost...I've already sold my soul to pay for all this. :rotfl:

Someone help me before I lose the will to live. (Again.)

Thanks Andy. The more I read/talk about all this the more confused I'm becoming.

I was happy enough with the first option until someone mentioned these things are too easy to be leaned on. With most of us, that wouldn't be an issue but I'm thinking my eldest (who has disabilities) may well 'forget' and lean on it or use it as a handle. There again, it may not be a problem.

I'm not fond of trailing hoses either but I really wanted wall mounted taps so I have to have a trailing hose. The bath I've earmarked does also have a version with a tap ledge but it's just not as streamlined looking.

There seems to be so many products on the manufacturer's websites and they all look so similar to me that i suspect I'm missing something.

    Just generally lots of those.......

    :D

    hi Aliasojo,

have a look at the option in this thread-
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1813473
in the pics from Alan M, it shows what you are describing. When I asked about the hand shower he kindly explained what he had used;-

Bristan Prism thermostatic mixer with built in diverter and Spout.
    Cifial Techno Deck shower set.

So the bath fills from the spout and the hand shower is concealed :)

I obviously need to take time out now, I'm reading things and not seeing things iyswim.

That was my own old thread that I bumped earlier this morning to ask what the shower thing was.

Will need to go delete my last post there since the question had already been answered ages ago. :D

    lol, easily done :p

it's probably because i snuck in and asked Alan M about the hand shower :D

I've been as utterly confused as you, trying to sort a double ended bath, but typically awkward I want a steel one, with a deck mounted hand shower option, as well as a fixed overhead shower and some sort of wall mounted bath filling option!!:rolleyes:
had some good advice about sticking to brand names for reliability (though has blown my budget!!) but i think have figured it out now.

Soooo, if I'm right, that means you want a thermostatic mixer with diverter (thats the valve which switches between hand shower & bath filler) some sort of spout to fill the bath with, and a deck mounted hand shower, so you could look at different makes to be fair. BUT Alan M's option looks really good though, and shouldn't be as accessible for your eldest, and takes all the headaches out of looking!! lol :D

    Yip, I think that's what I need. :D

I've found this which I think is really streamlined looking but I'm not sure if wet hands would be able to turn it easily, simply because there's no protrusions. I like the look though.

I also found a fairly plain spout which wasn't too long, but I have no idea how a deck mounted shower thing would join up to all of this. I'm assuming the plumber would have to route loads of extra pipework.

I wish plumbing sites would show suggested 'route diagrams' to show us lesser mortals how all thisng fit together behind the scenes. Some electrical sites do that with wiring diagrams.....so I dont see how an example diagram couldn't be shown for plumbing.

Hi I think the set up we have is what you may be referring to. We have a 3 way valve on the wall with a bath filler. 1 of the knobs does the bath filler, middle knob does the temperature and the other knob does the deck mounted handset.

Thanks becs. :D That's pretty much what I'm talking about. Do you find the bath filler intrusive? Also.....is the shower handset a normal handset or one of those 'follow me' jobs? Is it all linked within the wall or underneath the bath?

Btw...I like your tiles too. :D

Can anyone explain why this is joined to the waste? I've been thinking about it for ages and I still can't come up with a reason.

It's a Crosswater 'Follow Me' handset.

Hi, I don't find it intrusive because it's on the side. It may be a bit annoying if there were two of you in the bath but I prefer comfort over romance!:rotfl:
It is a "follow me" handset and I love it. One thing I would say though was we have found the valve needs to be on a pump. We installed it originally without and we had constant problems with airlocks and the pressure of the handset was pathetic. We've since swapped our shower pump for a whole house one and connected it all up and it's fantastic.:rotfl:
We couldn't believe the amount of people that don't have a handset because they have a seperate shower, it's so useful to be able to wash hair in the bath as well as cleaning it!
Thanks re tiles, I can't tell you how many we looked at before deciding on them!

Exactly! :D I'm so tired of having a jug sat on the edge of the bath for that very reason. :rotfl:
