Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 2nd August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Happy Birthday Pink-Winged,
hope you have a great day and hope Milly is Ok now.
halight - they made me wait 11 weeks too but they did back date it all if that is any consolation
Lesley - I often mention this thread to Tristan when we are talking. He knows all about all the thoughts and prayers sent, and candles burnt for him when he was in his coma back in Jan, so if anyone mentions him, I do read it out to him.
Pink - so where in the Southwest are you? We have had two days of sunshine down here, and not a bad week all round.
Bitsy - I hope your little ones feel better soon, you must be wiped out you poor thing.
taplady - hope your cold clears up soon
to Squiggles, Patchwork and moggins
Another lovely sunny day here yesterday so we managed to get out and get the first coat of paint on about 3/4s of the fence. I say 'we' in the royal sense of the word as it was really my OH and friend! I just sat there supervising and offering friendly advice such as 'Don't get paint on that plant' and 'You missed a bit'.
Dinner last night was some yellow stickered turkey breast with fried eggs and some oven chips and smiley potato faces from the freezer. (No, I have no idea why they were in my freezer either!:rotfl:) We are emptying it at the moment as it needs to be defrosted. On Tuesday (when my friend has a day off work) we are trundling round what is left in the freezer to my friends house and using her freezer to store the food while we do it.
Dinner today will be a half price beef joint from Sainsburys with veg from the garden.
I hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday.... squidgy
to anyone who needs one today.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning everyone.
Well DD was still running a temp all day yesterday, although thankfully not much over 38 degrees so that was better than the day before. She's terribly restless as though her body wouldn't switch off but then she's so over tired m not sure if thats part of the problem. We ended packing the kids in the car, taking a packed lunch and going for a drive just to get her to sleep! DS feel asleep too although he seems right as rain now.
Had a better night with her so hopefully she'll have got some decent sleep. I am just not sure if it's swine flu. She's got no cold symptoms, just miserable, twitchy, feverish and I think her head hurts because she rubs it a lot.
thanks for all the hugs regarding them. It's awful because she doesn't know what to do with herself neither do I
Anyway it's bright sunshine and blue sky here. They had predicted light rain so we'll have to see how things go. Veggie patch coming on nicely, haven't really had chance to get out there and study it much the past few days so I'd like to keep a check on what's going on.
Might squeeze on some baking if the kids allow. Tea tonight will probably be chicken and veg, nothing special. Usual OS jobs of washing and the running battle to keep the house vaguely tidy
Happy Birthday Pink-winged. Hope you have a good day.
Off to go and read rest of yesterdays thread. Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.
Edited because I clearly can't spell today!!!!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

I hope that any of you or loved ones taht have the swine flu are getting better. The good news is as far as i can tell is than even though that there are a couple of hundared tho with it now the deaths from it are still very small. very sad for thoes familys but to be truthfull it could be a hell of a lot worse with hundeards diring from it. I hope that it never gets to this stage.
Well i hope that you all have a great day
enjoy your seunday everyone:j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Good morning all!
Happy birthday Pink - have a fantastic day! xx
It's my dd2's bday today as well, but no celebrations here as she's still in Spain with her friend! Will do it all when she comes home. Have texted her and will await a reply before I phone her, not sure being woken up to my dulcet tones warbling happy birthday will do much for her lol!
I've had a lovely and very busy week with a friend and her boys staying, we managed to do loads of things, as evidenced by the pics on facebook! We even got to the beach one day, typical that the sun is shining today and they've gone home though! Managed lots of adult evenings out, as my lovely dd1 and ds were happy to babysit, bless them!
OS stuff today will involved much washing and clothes sorting and giving the kitchen a good clean. Also need to do something about the garden, perhaps astroturf and pretend plants are the way to go! I have a rose waiting to be planted, shamefully it's been waiting for a couple of months, so will have to find a spot for it today I think!
Lunch will be grab whatever you fancy I think, and dinner tonight will be roast chicken and yorkies and roast pots and veggies. Might do one of thriftlady's choc fudge cakes for dessert.
Hope everyone has a good day, bitsy - I hope your dd feels better soon, and Halight, enjoy your day of peace, essexgirl, enjoy your day out and hope you manage to get dressed first! xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Good morning
Well, did more OS-ing yesterday than had done all week. Had DW & WM working overtime, did some weeding, made some bread, picked runner beans, tomatoes and a few potatoes. Found quite a few dropped apples so will peel and freeze the good bits for apple sauce today. Also went grocery shopping, headed for Mr S's then realized when nearly there that I'd forgotten my purse so came back and went to local Co-op - couldn't face the traffic a second time.
DD1 came home yesterday :j , will be here for a month before moving in to her next uni house.
DD2 has gone car-booting this morning. At 17 she has already developed some very thrifty ways!
Pink-winged - happy birthday :bdaycake:
Bitsy - hope DD improves.
Today's plans - make more bread in BM, more washing and dinner will be chicken with something - need to make sure there are plenty of leftovers for tomorrow.
Have a good day,((( hugs))) if not.

Good morning,
I haven't posted lately as I've been ill, and so has Grumpy the elf child. There hasn't been much eating or OS going on in our household, but hopefully we're better now. It wasn't swine flu, but something similar, with all of the symptoms bar the high temp. My poor baby missed his last day at nursery as he was too ill to go. He's looking forward to being a grown up schoolboy in September though.
We're off to Asda at 10:00am as we have very little in the way of food. I missed my usual shopping day as the boy was ill, and then we went to a friend's caravan for two days, so we didn't need anything. I also have a lot of cleaning to catch up with today.
I have to say that there's nothing like being away from home and eating out for 2 days to make you really want to come home and carry on with the OS thing. I didn't even want to eat out the second day - just couldn't face it again. Luckily, when we came home yesterday, my marvellous friend and neighbour offered to make us dinner (I was shattered), so it was a fab chicken salad for me instead of toast. Top of the shopping list today is a bunch of flowers for my friend.
Oh, and just a quick word of warning. I know these cases must be few and far between, but another friend, who was diagnosed as having swine flu over the phone came out of hospital today - she had viral meningitis.
Bitsy as a mum who has spent a fair bit of time without sleep, and holding the sick bowl this week, I am sending get well vibes to your children. Hugs.
Pink
Take care all of you0 -
Hi, this is the first time ive posted on this thread, so bear with me!
My plans for today are to make a loaf of bread (by hand since the BM has stopped working!), hope fully it will stay dry so i can get at least one load of washing out! I may try and clear out the linen cupboard upstairs, since it all falls on you when you get a sheet out!
Dinner is organic roast chicken (from our organic meat box from the farm) roast pots, and veg.August wins - Janeo Jewels Daily Winner 28/8

Morning all,
:bdaycake:Happy Birthday to Pink , have a brilliant day, and I hope Tilly is ok xx
Well huge exciting news here
, I put my house on the market on wednesday, at 10k over what the estate agent advised, I have had three viewings so far, and yesterday morning a lady came with a little boy, whipped round the house in 4 minites and left and I thought she did not like it, had a phone call within 10 mins, with a very good offer , which I turned down
, got another phone call within minites with an even better offer, which i accepcted, only 2k under full asking price, and within 4 days :T. I honestly thought it would take months and months, the only drawback is that we have not found anywhere we like, but something will come up.
Jacket spuds for dinner, with cheese ham tomatoes etc, the house is generally tidy, (due to viewing) but I have our bedding on the wm, will do dd's once she gets up.
My mums dog is arriving later, so will be out walking them, Taplady I often go and visit my Aunt in Hereford, and know its not far from you, will have to arrange a meet next time.
I need to phone the Dr in the morning, I have a itchy rash appearing on my hand, everyday I wake up and its spread a bit more, I hate to say it but I think it may be ringworm
:o, (Makes me feel scuzzy even saving it !!) so will get an appointment tomorrow.
I hope the poorley ones feel better soon,
Have good days all xx
Welcome Mels, your dinner sounds fab, what time shall we come ?
