Thank you everyone for your help but i am still very confused. If i was to get the nightbus (n18 which seems the best option) where does it stop near where i am staying? I am staying at the travelodge in wembley. The nearest tube station is Hanger Lane. I know that the nightbus stops at Wembley central. Is this anywhere near where i need to be or should i be getting off at a different stop?
I would really appreciate anyones help as i am totally unfamilar with london and its transport systems.
Thanks in advance0 -
The N18 bus stops at Stonebridge Park underground station See

If you put the Wembley Travelodge post code (NW10 7UG) into streetmap.co.uk you'll see that the hotel is pretty much mid way between Hanger Lane and Stonebridge Park underground stations. I doubt it'll take more than 10 mins to walk there from Stonebridge Park.
If you can take the tube, Stonebridge Pk is on the Bakerloo line which runs from Piccadilly which is a very short walk from Leicester Sq. Or, you could walk up Charing Cross road for about 10 mins to Tottenham Ct Rd underground when you'd be on the line to Hanger Lane. Don't forget that not all trains run to the end of the undergound lines (ie some turn round earlier and just run on the central sections) and that the Central line has two branches on the West side of London and that you need the West Ruislip branch.
You can check last train times on the tfl.gov.uk website but from Tot. Ct Rd on a Saturday it is at 0031 and from Piccadilly at 2354 (the later trains don't go to Stonebridge Pk).

Stonebridge Park bus stop is at a junction off the North Circular Road which runs straight up to Hanger Lane underground. If I am not mistaken, I believe the Travellodge is literally just up the road. Night bus would be the cheapest by far. How about a local mini cab telephone number from the Travellodge and book locally. I use cabs quite a lot and estimate a mini-cab would be about £25 top whack. Hanger Lane, down Westway and you hit Marylebone Road within about 10 minutes late at night, on to Leicester Square no more than 20 minutes. Different story during the day at least an hour. I pay £24 to get from Highgate,North London to Heathrow Airport which is a longer journey than Travellodge to Leicester Square.SallyD0

Personally, yep, bus or tube. I also suspect that they would be that bit quicker. If you have a days travelcard, then the nightbus is included in that in any case.
Tube is safer than night bus IMHO but in 6 years of taking nightbuses only seen one fracas, so no biggie. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Have to agree with others here. Taken night buses, trains (yes, where I live there is a 24 train service from Victoria) and tubes at all hours in London over the years and so far have never had a problem (apart from the usual delays).

I am not quite sure why you are confused. The first poster gave you the journey planner should you decide not to take a cab. Had you gone there and selected either
tubes or buses, selected Leicester Square for the station and your hotel postcode, plus the time and date you wished to return, you would have been given several options.
Likewise with the buses except using Trafalgar Square as the station or stop.. In addition, Travel Lodge has a map of your hotel on their website. The AA have a website with a route planner. Getting around London is not difficult, there is any amount of maps and timetables on the web relating to travel in London. It is simple but you have to make the effort and look.0 -
Too true Tony. Travelling in London is very easy,we seem to have an abundance of buses. The Travellodge is not out in the woods - okay not the most picturesque are of London but it does the job.SallyD0

Hey guys, lets not have a go at the OP. For Londoners (and those who frequent our fine capital regularly), travelling around London seems a breeze, because we are used to it and its all familiar.
However to those coming into London, London is the big bad city and there are loads of different ways getting around it. Its unfamiliar, and therefore can be daunting. Many of my friends and family who have visited London for the first time are often daunted by the challange that is London's public transport system."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Soz for asking. I thought the point of a forum like this was for people to help each other out. I havent been to London for over 10 year and thought this forum was the ideal way to find out the cheapest and most practical way of finding out how to get around. I did use the planner the first poster gave me but wasnt sure which station was my ultimate destination. If someone was asking for information about where i live then i would be more than happy to help as sometimes the best way to get around are the tried and tested ways rather than what the bus company's recommend.
A big thanks to all the posters who have posted useful and very helpful information. I am now looking forward to my up and coming weekend away knowing i can enjoy myself without having to worry about getting around, getting home late at night and most of all knowing that i dont have to spend a fortune.0 -
If you book with a reputable minicab company in the Wembley area (I can give you some recommendations) they should charge around £20/21 to collect you, no more.
I worked for a minicab company in Wembley up until recently.0
