You would have to wait a while for one, getting on the tube would be quicker.

My guestimate in a black cap is 50 quid plus a 10 quid tip after waiting at least half an hour to find one available. Saturday night around midnight near Leicester Square is very busy, the demand for cabs is massive, probably at its highest of the week at this time.

Black cab at that time will be expensive. If you really want to go ahead why don't you call someone like Addison Lee (02073878888) or Express Cabs (02074033333). They are both very reputable licenced taxi companies. Give them a call and they would be able to give you a rough quote.

Should add using the likes of Addison Lee and Express Cabs would be cheaper than a black cab. Also if you order in advance, you won't have to faf around looking for a cab when you come out from wherever you are going in central london.

The journey planner someone gave the link for earlier has a link to a section on cabs - how to calculate fares - numbers to ring etc. It's a really good website.

And if you plan on getting the tube at all don't forget to get an Oyster card - can almost half your journey costs. And kids no longer travel free on the underground without their own Oyster card. Worth looking into - you can buy it online from that same website by going into the Tube links.

    Have a great time!

There is a "going home" rank in London's West End - this is located on cranbourne st - they try to match up customers with Black Cab drivers who are doing their last job out of the central area (loads of cabbies live in an area closeish to Wembley so should be easier to match up than someone living south of the river). The rank is run by professional stewards so is efficient and well run. You could be waiting 5 minutes or longer - but best chance of finding a cab. Cranbourne st is opposite the Hippodrome. A friend who is a black cab driver said that it should cost around £40 max (on the meter). You can tip if you want - I usually round up so if it has cost say £9 I would give £10 - certainly not £10!

If all else fails, then I think the N18 is the nightbus that runs closest to where you are staying - check this though. Night buses usually leave from trafalger square.

However, as long as you are fairly quick, should be ok on the tube. TFL london site is probably best bet for further info. www.tfl.gov.uk
