OS Daily Thread - Saturday 1st August

This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 1st August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Bitsy - I am hoping a nice warm August will ripen up my toms and strawberries etc.
Fairy - I was so happy to hear that your father is doing well in his new home. It all sounds really positive and must be a load off your mind.
Lame - I hope the house next door sells fast too as there is nothing worse than horrible neighbours.
sistercas - you are probably right!
marie - Hope you feel better when you get up this morning hon.
penpin - How are you doing?

Had a lovely afternoon in the garden yesterday. spent about two hours just lying and relaxing in the sunshine. I kept noticing odd things that needed doing, but made the conscious decision just to enjoy the look, sounds and smells of it all. Lots of butterflys and bees around which was good.
Had left over casserole last night for dinner - we bulked it out with cabbage and leeks and more green beans (this time from the FIL). It was very filling though my OH was playing 'find the beef' as there was not much left in there! :rotfl:
Tomorrows jobs are to start painting the picket fence I have around part of my garden. It's lavender and was last painted two years ago so this year we have been clearing the ivy and things off the front section and brushing it with a wire brush in preparation it for painting.
Well I am chatting to Tristan - he is doing OK, so I am really happy. I managed to grab a peach and a banana before I sat down so that is breakfast sorted out!
I hope your weekend is starting well.. Warm gentle
to anyone who would like one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning everyone.
Dull, grey and damp here oh joy.
Have only had 3 hours sleep last night. DD was off colour most of yesterday and by 11pm had a temp of 38.9. Her temp is normally around 35 so was concerned about possible swine flu. she can't tell me if she has other symptoms so rang NHS direct. They promised a nurse would ring me back within 4 hours. This was at midnight and am still waiting  She been really unsettled, keeps crying in her fitful sleep. DS got up half an hour ago and he's now wrapped in a fleece blanket next to me shivering  I have no idea at the mo if it is swine flu but have no idea where they picked it up from as we haven't really been anywhere
They can't be poorly at the same time I'll never cope!!!!!
So am thinking today will be managing the kids ailments so not much OS going on. H was supposed to be doing his charity bike ride today but poorly kids, no sleep and pants weather I can't see him being able to do it this weekend.
Have a good day all OS or not.
Diva - glad Tristan seems to be doing OK
Edited to add: NHS just rung me. Had to confirm no rash like mennigitis (so have had to wake sleeping DD - great they couldn't actually ring when she was awake during most of the night  Got to keep an eye on her temp and if she still has a fever by Monday to take to GP. So all in all not much help. She suggested ice lollies to help with fluids (not an issue with DD she's drink a river if I gave her the chance!) - not sure how capable they think a 12 month old baby is at eating freezing ice but never mind. Will stick to drugs and cold fluids for now..........I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Well, it's been a really bad week for OS-ing. We even resorted to takeaway on Thursday as we were both so drained, but hopefully things will start to improve now. It's pouring with rain at the moment so will have to tackle indoor jobs today.

Morning all,
Not raining here, but overcast, I have a load of towels in the wm, so hope it stays dry, and OH's work clothes to go in next.
Last night I was sitting in the conservatory when a B****y mouse ran from under the sofa into my tomato plants , I had thought I had seen one earlier comming under next doors fence and across the patio, anyway OH and dd took all the plants out, and OH was trying to shoo it out with the mop , Little dog was frantic to get to it, and tbh I would have let her if dd had not been there, thats what terriers are for after all, so anyway, we will need to get the sofa out today, and check everywhere.
Need to have a good tidy through this morning, then out walking later on.
My Mum and dad have gone to Hereford for a week to visit family, so I have got there dog for the week next week, my sis has her this weekend
Bitsy, hope the children feel better soon, poor things, do you think they may have picked something up from the little girl you minded ??
Bread cheese and pickles for tea, and maybe a bit of ham if they are good
Taplady, hope you feel better soon xx
Ok need more tea, have fun all xx
Haribo, how is the DIY going ???????

my mum phoned to say she has swine flu, she feels really poorly but the doc says its too late for her to have tamiflu (it has to be started within the first 48 hrs apparently ) I worry about her as she has a heart condition
need to clean through the house today, I have been working all week and DH has been refitting the shower room and the mess has spread to every single room in the house
nipped into Mr T's yesterday, spent double what I normally do  mind you there was a fair amount of alcohol in there to take to Dsis next week as we are staying with her for a couple of days
hope everyone has a great weekend
edited to say: Bargainbird ooh I like the kenwood titanium , I couldnt afford it either :rotfl: I have a much older version of the 2nd processor but it does what I ask it to , I make my fruit cakes and stuff that needs heavy mixing in it and its fine0 -
:hello:Good morning!
Up slightly early (for me) today as the man didn't come to retile the bay window roof last weekend, he's here today instead. He's just putting the scaffolding up. It's meant to rain today, which is a nuisance. Though at least it's not raining yet.....I expect it will start persisting down as soon as all the tiles are off
nic1lou2 - Glad you got an airer - such a good bargain! As soon as I saw them I said "No, we can't get one of those, there's just nowhere to put it!" DH said "Oh, I'm sure we'll find room somewhere!" (that's what he usually says, which is why our house has far too much stuff in it ) but I stood firm and said "No, we do not have room, do not put it in the trolley!"
I'll look out for a concertina-type one with a smaller "footprint", instead.
meanmarie - Hope your throat doesn't feel too bad this morning. i think you've been working too hard! (((HUGS)))
halight - Well done on the meat bargains! We bought a smallish shoulder of pork at our butcher's yesterday and it was more than £7 - their meat is always really good though. We had a shoulder of pork from them a few weeks ago and I roasted it on gas mark 5, and it was :drool:
Nice to see you pink90, good luck with the blitzing
kjsam - You sound very tired, try to get some rest over the weekend if poss!
sistercas - So sorry to hear about your Mum! Hope she feels better soon!
bargain bird - I've got a Kenwood Multi-Pro, though it's a different model from the one you're thinking about (I've got the one with the squarish base rather than round). I really like it, nice and sturdy and works well, though I haven't tried mixing cakes in it. It can make pastry and bread dough too.
Bitsy Beans - So sorry to hear about the children,I do hope it's not swine flu andthat they get better quickly! (((HUGS)))
LameWolf - Hope all goes well with Molly-Dog and you enjoy having her!
Diva - Glad you've heard from Tris :j
Scuzz - It's nice to see you posting again :wave:Good luck with the cards and jewellery!
taplady - hope you feel better later! What a shame it's raining for the wedding - perhaps it will clear up though.0 -
Morning all
I had a bit of a lie in this morning as I went over to DD's last night & didn't get home til 12:30.
I have some fish in the freezer so will be making fish pie today & I need to decide on a pudding for tomorrow when DD & DSIL will be coming for lunch.
It's very overcast here so I'm glad I cut the grass yesterday, it was getting very long. I need to plant up another pot of cut & come again leaves today as I'm running low.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
