    Hi,

Mine did exactly the same after about 2 years.....no charge, no light...nothing.

We found that the usb input socket was broken, mainly due to the charging flex being tugged around whilst charging.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

Ours went because we were coiling the wire around the sucker at the back when it wasn't in use, leading to the usb connection bending and damaging.

The OH's dad managed to get the unit opened up, and there was a tiny wire broken connecting the USB socket to the circuit. He simply soldered it back in!

The usb plug on the charger was also bent and wobbly, so we chucked it away and bought another one on ebay for about £4. The unit now works!

The problem is with the flimsyness of both the usb plug and usb socket. With them constantly being plugged in, unplugged, ravelling and unravelling the wires in the car, they get damaged very quickly.

Hope this helps...but can't guarantee you repair will be as straight forward as this!

    Thanks for letting me know.

  • Re: edited 1st post - It seems TomTom are asking for approximately half of the cost of a new one. I would have it repaired if they could guarantee it for another year or I may decide to purchase a competitor's model instead. It's certainly worth trying it on with them.

    UPDATE............

I never replied to the we want 95.00 link they emailed me except to email a question to them asking if they could let me know what was wrong with it and if they would offer a 12 month warranty.

A few days later the TOM TOM was delivered repaired. No mention of it being a free of charge repair. just a standard letter telling me what they had repaired and this was now under warranty for a further 6 months.

    Repaired was...

Replaced mainboard, components defective, replaced cosmetic part.

So anyone in the same situation do not pay straight away and see if you are lucky.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Lucky you!

They've obviously c*cked up and repaired yours free by mistake!

Some other poor soul with a warranty repair has probably been asked to pay...

    Lucky you :)

Just thought I'd highlight that there is a market on ebay for broken sat navs so never just throw them away.

Companies repair them and sell them on as refurbished models or just keep them for spares. The original packaging will help bump up the price as well.

I sold my water damaged tomtom ONE for £40 (without packaging or accesories last year) :)
