hi,

I have a Tomtom Go 910 and It will not charge using the wall charger or the usb connection to the computer. nothing... not a light.. flicker... nowt.

Its just over 2 years old so can not go back to tomtom. just do not know where to start.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Nikki

EDIT TO ADD (13/8)

I tried all the suggested options and could find no one local to repair - tomtom suggested I return back to them and they would quote on repair for me. postage was free and they would return it if I was not happy with quote.

I have just been emailed they want 95.00 to repair. I have checked the shopbot and even though I paid 320.00 for it they are now 170 plus delivery new.... would you have it repaired?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Nikki

hold the tom tom with the screen facing down. you are looking into the docking hole.all the writing ... bluetooth etc is the right way up. 1/4 inch into the top of the oval docking hole (on the rhs) is an indentation - you will need good light.

If you take a paper clip and unfold it, push it gently into the hole located in the indentation it should work - without losing any of your maps or music etc.

advice for resetting it from Tom Tom re Go 910

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
    1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.
    2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.
    3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.
    4. Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.
    5. Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

But it can go back to the place you bought it.

In view of that statement it's doubtful the reset option is possible as the battery needs to be charged up first.
I have found their support site quite helpful though (as mention above with link).

    Thanks for all your help.

I have spoken to Tom tom who advise that without battery charge there is nothing they can do.

They will give me details of a company who I send it to and they repair. if its a simple battery replacement then its around 60.00. It could be more.

I have just noticed that in the docking hole of the tomtom there is a run of brass teeth. These would connect to the brass teeth of the charger / window sticker part. One of these teeth is broken. Think its going to be that.

Going to try maplins now to see if they stock tomtom parts.

    lol maplins, they wont.
the only things ive seen in there are bits for attaching to cars, and overpriced they are too, best bet is to buy a used one on ebay and cannibalise it imo, if thats too much hassle/expensive its probably better to just get a new one.

that said, the adapter might be a standard usb plug, which is possible to buy in most electronics shops.

My sister in law thought that her Tomtom had died. Tried all kinds- then her son in law removed the clear plastic sticky cover that was still on the screen from new and guess what - it worked again !
