spendaholicinseattle wrote: »OK... spent a bit of money today, and need to get honest about it and why. £35 on bike stuff... i don't NEED bike glasses even if flies get in my eyes when downhilling etc... also bought some bungee ropes to help secure bike to car and a mini rugby ball for my nephew... not part of the plan!
I think I need to take a moment sometimes and not rush in, I do it because I feel I "need" something - it's when I'm feeling a bit low normally. And then I hate myself for doing it... not nice
Anyway, today I changed my tariff on my moby so it should be £35 a month not £49. Need not to call 0800 numbers like my internet service provider on it too!
The council tax forms came today so I am gonna fill them in and send them off. Nice to get letters from various people saying I have cancelled their services!

We are all inclined to the impulse buy. And gifts are unavoidableBut you could maybe return the glasses though - it is good experience to make yourself go through and something I've only learned to do lately.
Well done on the mobile! And on coming back and 'fessing - it's worth thinking about why you bought today (boredom/fear/tiredness etc) so you can recognise the signs in the future...0 -
Thanks bfg. Might have been a bit of loneliness I think. I get that quite a bit. Just a feeling though, no reason to spend.
I set up an e-saver account with Abbey today - I actually have a savings account! Woo hoo! However I am not going to put much into it until I have paid my debts off. Have now sent the Council Tax form off too. I will only get 6 months or so's rebate but that's still £150, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!
I should also have £300 coming in from some summer marking work I do.0 -
Tonight might be a good snapshot of how I spend money needlessly. I want to go to the driving range - I have already bought a range card for the summer which gives me a bit of a discount (pre LBM). I often buy a bottle of water or a coffee down there - am going to take my own and have a sad anorak flask if needs be! Then meeting friends in town tonight - need to either get train or bus, less convenient but better than paying loads for parking.0

How much have you saved so far on your monthly bills? looks like you've saved 50 a month just today alone.

P.s have you set yourself a budget for tonight - ie not to spend more than 50 pounds (or whatever you have in your budget).
Sounds like you have good ideas regarding taking your own bottled water and parking tonight.
Have fun - knowing you are making great strides to pay off your debt.

I think the idea above of putting money into it towards car tax, insurance and other bills is a good idea, that way you aren't surprised by anything...might be worth setting up a direct debit??0 -

Hey there Spenda! (Nearly went a bit Shirley Bassey then!:D)
I'm a fellow Spendaholic - though am obviously better at it than you as I owe far more
Well done so far - you're being ruthless and it'll serve you well:T
Have you thought of setting up evening classes teaching French?
I realise you may be busy marking or planning, but to do 1 or 2 nights a week may prove a lucrative sideline
My DD goes for one hour a week - £8.50 a go:eek: and she's only 5!
Yeah I know, more fool me - but she really nagged to go and loves it.
There's at least 10 kids in the class and they hold a few classes a week.
I don't live far from you, so that must be the going rate...
Also regards Flylady, I find the actual Flylady easier than the the Old Style board - they are HARDCORE! :rotfl:
PS, as Sashanut said - you should try the Payment A Day thread
Best of Luck!0 -
That's a great idea about the evening classes - maybe next summer?
I had a great time last night and it only cost me a £3.50 bus fare to town and back! Can't remember the last time I took the bus... so much cheaper than driving and paying for parking.
Today is the first for a while I haven't made any savings - I have been out all day playing sport and then a BBQ. I am gonna try and to my energy bills tomorrow if the phone lines are open!0 -
