Wow you've done loads already today. I agree that the holiday might not seem quite so far away now.
And yes it might take a while for the results to filter through to your account but when they do it'll be brilliant.
I can't believe the Council are backdating your Council Tax - you have a nice council there.
You've saved over 100 pounds a month already! woo hoo! plus money due from overpayment of council tax (that's about another 250 or so I guess).
The bank account thing might work for you - depends on how you want to organise things really.

If you can't trust yourself , YES!
If you can be disciplined keep at least one for emergencies, at least until you've built up an emergencies fund. Some people recommend putting the card/s in a waterproof bag and the in a tupperware dish filled with water and keeping it in the freezer. that way you have to defrost it before use which can give you "second thoughts" time. Also if you have debts it can be useful keeping cards open once you've cleared the balance on one you can often get 0% deals offered so that you can transfer debts with higher interest rates. These days it might be harder getting new ccards?CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -

Only you know how much at risk they are
Personally I do think it's a good idea to have one for emergencies but only if you can trust yourself to keep it aside. Definitely don't carry it with you. And if you have a trusted friend or relative you can leave it with, so much the better.
Well done on all the changes so far!0 -
Hehe I like the freezing idea!
Bit of bad news, I can't get the buildings and contents deal from Abbey after all as I am in a flat... why does no-one insure flats??0 -

Hello again spendaholicinseattle,
Keep up the great work,
NEVER carry your credit cards with you. Leave them at home. If you miss buying something as the card is not available maybe the next day you won't want to buy it or the “need” will turn into just a “want”
Total up all your bills that you are paying annually or quarterly such as TV licence, Car road tax, Car, Buildings and Contents insurance, Car maintenance, Holiday and Emergency funds, etc. that you show monthly in your SOA. Then open a savings account and pay in that amount monthly by standing order. Then when those bills come along you have the money for them.

OK... spent a bit of money today, and need to get honest about it and why. £35 on bike stuff... i don't NEED bike glasses even if flies get in my eyes when downhilling etc... also bought some bungee ropes to help secure bike to car and a mini rugby ball for my nephew... not part of the plan!
I think I need to take a moment sometimes and not rush in, I do it because I feel I "need" something - it's when I'm feeling a bit low normally. And then I hate myself for doing it... not nice
Anyway, today I changed my tariff on my moby so it should be £35 a month not £49. Need not to call 0800 numbers like my internet service provider on it too!
The council tax forms came today so I am gonna fill them in and send them off. Nice to get letters from various people saying I have cancelled their services!
