Another idea for Jeans if you are a gardener is to make gloves.I draw round my hand adding a half inch for seams.Stitch round and add elastic to cuff if needed.:D (I make liners in jersey if they are needed for tough jobs).I have a ton of fabric here as I used to trade on ebay and have made some personalised ones as xmas pressies before. The kids love them with spiderman on!

I love the idea of sewing lots of stuff and I think I'd actually be quite good if my attempts from school are anything to go by... But no-one I know round here have a sewing machine *sob*

I might give Freecycle a go...

I have a few old baby clothes, mainly white cotton vests & sleepsuits that are not in good enough condition for ebay or freecycle. I was wondering what I could do with them. I thought I could cut them up and use them as rags but.....I know this will sound hopelesly ridiculous.....what on earth do I use the rags for?! I know people have rag bags and things but my parents never had anything like that and I wouldn't know what to use them for! I know I sound really really stupid but I'm not, honestly! :D

    Hi There

You use rags in the same way as you would use a cleaning cloth - for windows etc. They can be used for dusting, washing down paintwork, etc

Make sure you remove poppers, zips etc - to prevent scratches on paintwork or glass

mopping up mucky spills - car oil etc - which would not easily come off a proper cleaning cloth for its re-use - use rags and just throw.
  • Rags are great as they save buying clothes and dusters. I use rags for dirtier jobs (not kitchen worktops or tables) such as cleaning the toilet, the floor, the car, the radiators. The cloth is often nice and tough so can be bleached and reused and if it gets to icky or worn I don't worry about chucking them as they were free anyway.

Use them for anything you would use a J cloth for or another cloth.

    Or make into rag rugs?

otherwise you can give them in to the charity shop, if you let them know it's all rags they sell them onto a rag merchant.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and advice. really like RAS's suggestion of the rag rugs. Had a look at a rag rug thread on here and think even I could manage one lol. Another thing to add to my to-do list! Thanks again everyone.
