Hi,
The current Mrs Counter will be 40 at the end of December, so I wanted to take her away somewhere for a couple of days to mark the occasion.
However I am not sure where to go, so I was hoping for some advice on which city to go to, or ideally a hotel recommendation.
The criteria are as follows:
1. 2 or 3 nights away
2. Return to UK on 23rd December
3. Direct flight from Edinburgh
4. 4* hotel (i.e. not too cheap or too expensive)
5. City centre location
6. Looking for a city where we can get up in the morning and wander round the city and see the landmarks
7. Would consider a UK destination, of course
We did Amsterdam a few years ago, so I was thinking Prague or possibly Paris.
In addition, since it has been a while since I booked a break such as this, where should I start in finding a hotel once I have decided on a location. Which are the preferred websites to look at?
Thanks for any advice.

My first thought would have been Amsterdam.
From a lady who would like her OH to take her away I would like to go to Paris
or even London.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Check out Sevilla: one of the most beautiful great cities anywhere in the world.0

Venice. It is just so beautiful.
Barcelona - laid back and slightly warmer. (I went in January and significantly warmer that Britain - jumper weather, but not a coat and jumper.)
Paris - again, very beautiful and lots to do.
Marrakesh - if you'd like some winter sunshine and something a bit more exotic. Very cheap though.
Carcasonne - cheap flights and a lovely place, I'm going back in September. I bet they'd have a nice Christmas market then.
And three I haven't done but plan to : Norway, Dubrovnik and Bruges.
Have a lovely time.0 -
Vienna is a beautiful city.....0

Easyjet has affordable tickets from Edinburgh to Milan on the dates you mention. If you can stand the cold Krakow has some beautiful buildings.0

Perhaps a good starting point is where you can fly to from Edinburgh http://www.edinburghairport.com/portal/page/Edinburgh%5EGeneral%5EPlan+and+book+your+trip%5EDestinations+and+airlines/Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Good for hotel prices https://www.hotelscomparison.com
Good for hotel reviews https://www.tripadvisor.com
Good for a bit of cashback https://www.quidco.com
Go direct to the airline website from the Edinburgh Airport website.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Bruges is lovely - with chocolate, waffles and beer, river tours, beautiful buildings to keep you both satisfied.
Reims is also very beautiful and you can do a tasting tour of the champagne houses (it's in the Champagne region) as it's a special birthday. They have a lovely little Christmas market and it'll probably be snowing (it was when we went in November!). Edit: no flights direct to Reims. Would have to go via Paris I think - unless someone else knows better! If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0
