    Well, check-in has closed.

In his situation I would not have bothered changing money: I am sure that cash can be exchanged in Mexico. I just hope that his travel insurance offers something. Otherwise, see if you can find a cheap last-minute deal for him so that they can go somewhere else without having to leave the airport (if you see what I mean).

    What does 'Gate Open' mean?

Means they're being asked to arrive at the gate in readiness for boarding or are already boarding.

    Did he make it???!!!

They made it with literally a minute to spare. :D

He didn't get money changed, he didn't have time. He will just have to get money in Mexico as Voyager said.

As a parent, I suspect I'm better off not knowing what speed he was doing.

Now that the panic is over, his girlfriend is giving him serious earache. Personally I think she should wallop him too.

    Thanks everyone.

    Pleased he made it.

He should have no problems changing his money in Mexico. Just thought I'd let you know to put your mind at rest!

If he's a bit scatty, tell him to put his exit visa money in his passport now, so he's got it for the return journey. I forget how much it is, but you have to pay cash at the airport on departure.
Here I go again on my own....
