Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 31st July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning OS chums, hi.gif
welcome2.gifback DomesticGoddess and anniestar and happy belated birthday annie, it was lovely to see you posting again. We miss you.
nic1lou2 - Enjoy your break and I hope the hospital visit wasn't too bad.
Webitha - Hope your OH has lots of luck finding a job
Halight - Glad the twins are feeling better hon.
celyn - Sorry to hear you are being taken for granted at work.
Bitsy and Patchwork - Huge hugs for both of youhugs.gif
Hilstep - Congratulations to your son! :j
Lamewolf - no honey, I have known those are weeds since I was a kid... :rotfl:I think its a astilbe or a salvia or something similar - we have it in a couple of places in the garden and it's really pretty.

My lounge still smells fab from all the lilys we have in two huge vases. We are on stamen alert though as every time a new bloom opens we have to cut them out!

Ended up making three birthday cards yesterday in one morning as I was late getting them off. Luckily I had designs in my head so it was just a matter of putting them together from my stock.

Been eating lots more from the garden - last of the long beans, first of the garlic I pulled yesterday; lettuce and chives in the salad of course and more broccolli. It's so great having it all, and yet still have so much not quite there yet. Lots of green tomatoes and strawberries and green peppers and chillis. Plus the carrots, onions, leeks and beetroot though I have no idea when they are actually ready.. :rotfl:Having sun in the garden for only a few hrs a day means ripening is always slower than other peoples.

Been filling in forms all day to apply for a grant for the car. Like most things it is down to what we can afford as much as anything, so depending on what money we get (if we are lucky enough), we will work from there as to which car we get.

Made a big casserole last night so will have the rest of that with some cabbage from the garden tonight. We failed on our Grocery Challenge this month yet again... it's driving me crazy!

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day.. Warm gentle hugs.gif to anyone who would like one.

Diva.x

Hi MSD and all who follow. Good luck with getting a grant for the car.Lilies are lovely but you do have to watch the stamens, don't you?

Well, today I don't plan to go anywhere because I have lots to do. I went out yesterday and found some lovely shops not too far from here, so I have sussed out where to buy practically everything we need now, including pressies for birthdays and Christmas. AND I drove on the correct side of the road, too!

Skyped DS2 and his very-pregnant wife, who is looking amazing, now that she has stopped work and is able to rest more. They are just about ready for the baby now, so we are all on alert with just sixteen days left until the due date!

Dinner today is tarragon chicken, with new potatoes and salad (with home-grown lettuce and tomatoes), and I shall make another plum crumble for pudding.

I have to change the sheets and have a good dust and hoover this morning, and I really should get some ironing done, but I'll see how I feel about that!

I haven't caught up with yesterday's thread but will try to later.

Hope you all have a great Friday with no rain anywhere!

    Morning everyone.
Thank you all so much for your kind hugs yesterday. Have only just caught up with the thread and you all touched my heart.
I feel better about things this morning although my stomach is churning as today is my first day of proper childminding!! I know I can have fun with kids etc its the observations and planning and development side I am panicking about. I will be due an Ofsted inspection probably in the next few months and I do desperately want to be good at this. Anyway shan't bang on about it as it only makes the butterflies worse ;)
As such not lots of OS going on today, no Flylady-ing either. Dread to think what the house will look like at the end of the day. Not sure what's for tea either, although the kids meals are sorted with cottage pie and broccoli for them.

Patchwork - My friend is in the same position as you. They have scheduled her hysteroctomy (sp?) for October and I think she'd really like another child, she already has 2 and I think she was going to ask the Doc the likelihood of her being able to carry another!!! [hugs] to you as it can't be pleasant x

Anniestar - belated Birthday wishes to you.

Diva - glad to hear I am not the only one with unripening toms. And it isn't lack of sun either. They were grown from seeds bought from Alan Roman and I am really disappointed about how they have grown.

Anyway I smell a delightful nappy from DD so I had better go and do the honours (if it can really be called that ;))

Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all,

Was a bit colder here this morning but fined up to a warm sunny day. Been a bit lazier today seeing as DH was home. He's about the same. Made a loaf of bread this morning. Also changed the sheets & cleaned the downstairs room as DS2 is arriving tonight as is DD. DS1 rang today to let me know he's picking up DGS next weekend & it looks like he's here for 3 weeks this time.

My niece in Melbourne is having a pretty awful time of it atm so I've offered to go down and help her out. She had her 2nd child about a month ago. She's also got a toddler. Baby is having awful stomach trouble. Due to have a gastroscopy on the 14th August. He's not feeding & screams all day & night. She thinks he'll have to be tube fed soon. She's at the end of her tether. Poor girl. I didn't know that DGS would be here so soon. I wish DS1 would have told me earlier  She's getting back to me on the weekend so I won't worry too much. SHe may not take me up on my offer.

Anniestar Hope you had an enjoyable birthday yesterday.

Hope you all have a great day. Friday always is a better day than Monday. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning.

Friday. I go back to work at 12. Most people are leaving for the weekend... Oh well, I have had a week off anyway...

I had this crazy notion yesterday of going for a walk. So I got the OH and the dog and a flask of coffee and took the train to St Ives. My plan was to walk to Penzance over the hill road and take the train home (6 miles) . So we set off and OH did not like my route and so decided we should go to Zennor as it was more scenic. It was, hills and coast etc. Got to Zennor 5 miles and stopped at the pub for a pint of beer.(£3.20 outrageous cost) Once there we realised that Penzance was still 6 miles away. The dog was worn out and dragging and OH had a groin strain. We persevered and made it in the end. OH was limping and the dog....dog tired. I felt fine, which just goes to show that beer, food and no exercise is not a problem....

Have a nice day before the rains come again!

N9aev I think i know the pub you mean - very expensive! now if you had walked on a bit to Pendeen you could have had a vodka and coke at The North Inn for £2 - I stayed at the north inn campsite a couple of months back and arrived in the middle of a rather jolly wake, got bought a few drinks in sympathy for my huge rucsack and ended up putting up the tent a bit the worse for wear :)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

Whoops! I accidentally pressed the exclamation mark next to the 'thanks' button on N9eav's post. Microsoft Outlook sprang into life but I cancelled it, so I hope I haven't caused a problem. If I have, N9eav - I'm sorry.

Welcome back, Anniestar, and happy belated birthday to you!

Happy birthday to Mr Essex-girl, too!

Aussie - your poor niece, and her little one. Big (((hugs)) from me to both of them.

Bitsy - good luck; you'll be fine, I'm sure! The other road-users are safe today; I'm not going out. I have only driven on the wrong side once since I've been here, but I was shocked how easily I did it!

Bargainbird - I can't believe that the baby is almost here. The time has really flown by, although I don't think DIL would agree with me! She's the only person I know at the moment who has welcomed the fact that it's not been a baking hot summer!

Well, I don't know why I sat down here. I've just seen DH off the premises, changed the sheets, put the BM on, and I had another couple chores to do, but I ended up sat on here with another cuppa.

Anyway, off to do some more chores. Getting dressed would be useful, too!

Have a great day. I see from the forecast that the weather is better today in the UK, so I hope it lasts for you all.

    Morning all,

Not raining here, but not sunny either , off to work today. I have a load in the wm which I will hang on the line before I go, dd can keep an eye on it for me, she came into work with me yesterday for a trial, and I am pleased to say she has some work for the next two weeks :T, it will give her some spending money, (which she has already spent 10 times over in her head )

Fish for tea tonight (not saying what kind ;):p), with new spuds peas and sweetcorn.

House is fairly tidy, so will just swish and swipe round later, dd can hoover for me.

Bitsy, good luck for today xx

    Have good fridays all xx

bright and sunny here at the moment, I know it wont last , I think the forecast for today is quite dismal

Dnephew is now home from corfu after spending the whole week of his holiday in hospital with swine flu. he still has a chest infection but we are all relieved he is back home.

have to do some birthday present shopping. I need presents for Dsis Dnephew (18) and 2 more nephews who are in there 30's so its off to meadowhall later to have a look round.

I also have a meadowhall voucher for me so I am going to nip into M+S and see if I can get a new bra. DD1 has insisted on coming with me to help :rotfl:

    today I need to
check online banking to make sure I have been paid
    washing / ironing
tidy up , although DH is retiling the shower room and the mess from that is all over the house
going to do a storecupboard tea tonight , probably pasta

    have a good day everyone

edited to say MSD I completely fell off the wagon with the grocery challenge for july ( most months actually :o) but i am sure I would spend even more if I didnt do the challenge
