thanks i have been told in the last few days that i will only get single room rent as i am on dla mobility and not the care component so i will be applying for that i am going to apply to the local housing list as well.

Also someone asked why i have a car and i have one as i can not go out on my own to unknown places or if i dont plan ahead to but i try to go out once a day to walk my dog and i go to the local fields where no one is around. The doctors call it agrophobia and social phobia i dont have full on agrophobia as some people cant go out at all, in the past i have been a hermit and stayed in for over 6months at a time but i hope i am getting better all be it a slow process!!

thanks again and i am glad i stumbled across this web site as it has given me a link to the outside world!!

Once you have got yourself settled into a new place if you wanted ot look for help with your phobias/anxieties/agrophobias etc then I can recommend you to the National Phobic Society. https://www.phobics-society.org.uk.

They have a huge amount of information on helping you plus they have a wide range of Therpaists who will undertake to work with you at a greatly reduced cost as your on benefits and a lot of people have good sucesses with this.

You will though have ot take a leap of faith becaose once you overcome your challenges then you will need to come off benefits like DLA and work but that would be something to look forward to maybe in the future?

Good luck loads of people here have given you loads of really great advice and I wish you the best in your new home.

This in itself should qualify you for care component DLA. I get middle rate care and high rate for getting around which i cashed in with motabillity. I cannot go to strange places as i get panicky and anxious, i also need help in case i stumble as I'm not at all steady on my feet in or out of the house, my carpet is so bruised it cries in terrible pain lol :o I would certainly re apply for the care component if its more than 3 months since you were turned down, if not contact a welfare rights officer at your local council or CAB and go to appeal. Might be an idea to arm yourself with as much knowledge on this area as possible. Good luck and I'm feel so sorry that your parents are asking/telling you to leave, I've have some terrible arguments with my son at times but i could never do that, he didn't ask to be born i asked for him and that is for life.:grouphug:

    hi
thanks for your posts i had applied when i first went for benifits nearly 2 years ago now and they turned me down and never sent me the claim form again for it (which im told they are ment to do) they only sent me the mobility one.
this is the only way i will be able to get housing benifit for a place of my own so this is the route i will have to take.
i dont like to get money off of the tax payers and feel a bit ashamed of it (no one in my family have done it!!) but i needed my own money and felt i had to stop asking my family and boyfriend for there hard earned cash!!

i am in a group at the moment run by the local mental health team and its helping hopefully this is going to be the turn around point in my life as i want to get my GCSE's and study for a job (not sure what yet)

thanks so much everyone and helen

How do you only get £289 a month benefit when you're on DLA? I am on DLA at the lowest rate and I get £226 a month for that alone. Even if you're under 25 and single, you must get at least £40 a week Income Support. And if you're currently living with your parents how come you're getting Income support? (You haven't mentioned how old you are, if I'm not mistaken your age is a significant factor when claiming HB- I moved out at 16 and couldnt claim anything until I was 18 unless my Mum produced a letter saying she refused to have me living at her house)

Connexions might be a better avenue than CAB if you have one in your area and youre young.

226 isnt lower rate, lower rate is nearer 15-20 a week I think. Income support is probably paying same level as JSA would for under 25 so about 160-180 a month for that.

Yes, I have a pacemaker and get low rate mobility, middle rate care as I need a helper to come in a couple of hours a day when my partner is away incase I blackout when cooking. I think what I receive is the minimum, you can't get lower than low rate mobility, and I think (but may be wrong) that the care element only coming in Middle and High rate.

Also, when you receive DLA it is a passport for a higher rate increment on your income support. I received Income Support for a couple of months when I first had my baby and was a lone parent, and instead of getting the standard £80-90 a week Income Support I got about £140 for having a disability also, on top of this I got my DLA at 226 a month and my Housing benefit.Council Tax benefit. (In fact come to think of it, I dont know why I got a job! I had it pretty easy!)

No idea where youve got £15 from, and why the hell are you paying for pet insurance?? It is statistically proven to be the biggest waste of money EVER because the premium doesnt justify the pay out in the evnt of vet treatment. Besides, if your pet was sick there are loads of 'charity pet hospitals' thatd treat it for free!

And without being rude, I think a car should be the least of your priorities when youve no home and no money and unless you live 20 miles from civilisation and no bus route, I think that is terrible financial management. And, again, without sounding rude, why dont you have a job? Does your disability hinder you in getting one? (You haven't mentioned what you get DLA for) If so, you can get a flat paid by HB and a higher amount of Income Support.

How is income support standard rate 80-90? From what I know if you have worked you get the inferior incapacity which is same as jsa for first 6 months and gets to a max of about 78 after a year and you have to be over 25 for that rate. Income support should pay the same for those without ni credits, sounds like to me you got income support payout for a couple.
  • Nicola, there will be someone in the local mental health team, or a welfare rights worker connected to it, who will be able to help you through the benefits maze and also give sound advice on how to fill out any forms. The 'professionals' know which particular words and sentences and ways of describing things to use which carry more weight. Best wishes.
