Help Housing Benifit Asap My Parents Are Going To Kick Me Out

Options
HI
i dont know what to do i have been trying to contact the CAB (citazen advice b) all morning and they close soon.

my parents want me to move out of there house as soon as i can or they will chuck me out.
i dont have any where to go but i suffer from agrophoba and depression and anxietys so i dont think shared housing will be good for me so i want to try to find a stidio flat or something cheep to put to the counsil as i am on benefit (income support and DLA) i think they will give me housing benefit but how long will this take and how do i go about it.
also is there a maium or minium i will recive roughly as i would nee £400 at least for a studio in croydon.
also would they help me with a deposit as well as i have no money i only get £289 a month in benefit and that pays for my food and things.

any help what so ever will help greatly.

nicola
Thanks every1 for making this website what it is, its helped me alot in the past!

    Hi Nicola

The first thing that you need to do is to get your parents to write a letter saying that they will be kicking you out on the *** date. Take this to your local authorities Homeless department, and explain. You may need to ask them to call your GP, in order to try and get given priority need, ie once you have spoken to a housing officer and applied for housing, get your GP to call that officer and explain your needs. If you are recieving DLA, you will be priority need, thus the council will give you accomodation, I would have thought.

You dont need a deposit for council flats, dont worry about that. At the same time you are given accomodation you will fill out Housing benefit & council tax benefit forms which will cover your oveheads.

Hug to you and all the best with it

I would get yourself down to local council ASAP or look in phone book for shelter they are very good for helping people with your needs.... HB should pay rent for studio/flat for 1 person ie wont pay for 2 bed place etc... shelter or dont know if you have BCHA near you they help with rent deposits but so should the council if you supply letter from your doctor ( council will need lots of medical history ) good luck

  • If you're under 25 make sure HB will cover all of your rent.........

Just to say Charles W is correct if you're renting privately. If the council puts you in temporary accommodation or rehouses you into a council or housing association property the restriction doesnt apply.

    Hi

I'm not surprised you couldn't get in touch with CAB. We've just had a Bank Holiday weekend, they'll have been closed since the time they closed on Thursday and they'll be absolutely snowed-under. It's amazing how many of these crises arise - marital breakdown, parents choosing to evict adult offspring, all these type of things, on or near to a major holiday weekend!

You've had good advice from everyone, good luck. It's always sad when this family breakdown occurs, my sympathies.

  • You have been given some good advice already, get a letter addressed to you from your parents stating that you have to leave and the date they would like you to leave. This must be signed and dated by them . Present yourself at your local council or one of your choice, but you will have to prove a local connection to any other council ie your brother or sister[if you have one] living there for at least 3 years. Evidence from your GP or CPN will be required as your vulnerablity will be your delicate mental health. Take proof of your Identity and national insurance number and any income that you have ie letters from Income support and your DLA letter. Your local authority should have a duty to house you for 28 days but this may be in B&B or hostel pending making their homeless enquiries before they can take steps to find you more permanent accomodation. They should help you to claim Housing Benefit and your entittlement to income support will pay your rent in full but you will have to pay any charges they make for heating, lighting and breakfast this normally amounts to around £8 or £9 pw.
You can if you wish find a room for yourself and claim HB but remember because you are under 25 you are subject to a single room rent , so I would advise you ask your local Housing benefit ofice [ also at your local council] to give you a pre tenancy determination form so that the level of HB the authority can pay is known before you take the accomodation.

    Good Luck

I just want to reiterate what other posters have said.... Shelter & CAB will give you the best advice. You should register for Housing Associations in your area too (Shelter/CAB will be able to tell you who they are or if you have a Housing Help Centre or something in your area it's worth giving them a visit too. Also as you are on DLA there might be some help from somewhere to do with that.... ask Shelter/CAB.

Good luck, let us know how you get on or if you need any further info.
