In Poole on the Quay you have got The Portsmouth Hoy which does lovely food - Lop Lop Gallery Cafe who are open during the day do Gluten Free food as well as th eusual sandwiches.
The Courtyard Tea Rooms are very good, Tandoori Nights is a good Indian, round the corner is The Guildhall Tavern (seafood) VVGood.
The Rising Sun Gastropub is excellent.
And there is a great sweetshop called Truly Scrumptious (Opposite The Museum) which is free to get in and quite interesting (Even for kids!!!) :j:j:j:j
Don't whatever you do go to the Gelato/Ice Cream place called Diva - It's gross and has a problem with Hygiene (allegedly)!!!
:eek::eek:
But there are loads of excellent fish and chip shops as well.0 -
We are off to Dorset for a week again this year and really enjoy it, it takes forever (seemingly) to go from point to point but when your on holiday who cares. We did Durdle Dor, Monkey World, Portland Bill, etc last time and will probably do Monkey World again. I have to say we went to Cuba last year also but enjoyed the UK holiday much more than the 'luxury' holiday which cost untold amount more!! As I have got older I have becoming less accepting of being herded around in airports so the get up and go nature of a UK holiday is more appealing.
Weymouth I did find a little unfriendly and like a lot of the UK you could be anywhere with the same shops, Costa, Starbucks, etc but I quite enjoyed the walk down by the quayside. We will venture over to Poole this time.Unsecured debt £0
Credit cards £0
Mortgage £81k MF date Jan 2024, now with added va-va-voom Dec 2019!!
Op's in 2011 - £1400 / £2000
Op's for 2012 - £2150 / £18000 -
From Poole Quay you will be able to get a small ferry over to beautiful Brownsea island which is owned by the national trust. It's a haven of peace and tranquility and home to lots of wildlife such as the endangered red squirrel.
Take a picnic a flask and a camera and catch the ferry from the bright yellow booth on poole quay.
Accessability/Mobility
You would need to check with the ferry company re accessability onboard.
On the island itself paths leading to the Visitor Centre are fairly level and smooth. Beyond that the island tracks are a bit rough in places and can be difficult to negotiate. But wheelchairs are available to hire for free from Visitor Reception. It is advisable to pre-book.The shop is accessible to wheelchairs and has a level floor inside. Free tractor-trailer trails for less mobile visitors, twice daily, 11am and 1.30pm. Spaces are limited and booking is essential at Visitor Reception. The trail lasts about 1 hour.
Brownsea island charges and entrance fee and the ferry is in addition to that.0 -
Some forthcoming events in Poole:
Coles Miller Dream Machines - The UK’s biggest and best weekly bike meet takes places on Poole Quay every Tuesday from 6pm
Quay for my car - free event on Poole Quay - a themed car event every Friday evening, May – August from 6pm – 9pm, putting a great selection of popular car marques in the spotlight0 -
weymouth has only had a starbucks and a costa for a couple of years

as someone who grew up there i have to say its nice to see it moving into the 21st century finally :P0 -
There is also a boat designed for wheelchairs and disabled people so that they can get a decent cruise around the Harbour0

Unfortunatley Weymouth has a bit of a reputation for attracting a certain type of holidaymaker, and over the years it is the behaviour of these visitors that has given the town a tacky rep.
If you visit out of season and avoid school holidays, you will find a very different town.0 -
