Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thur 30th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning. Another rain shower to start the day, just what we need on top of the 2 inches of rain yesterday!
I did go out and buy a new petrol strimmer. I plumped for the cheaper option after borrowing my neighbours Ryobi and finding it adequate for what I need.
Thankfully in the evening it cleared up enough for me to be able to try it our and cut all the stinging nettles down in the chicken run.
Last day off today, I am trying not to waste it... Where to go?

Cheers folks,
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Morning N9eav & all to follow,

I had a lovely day with DSis. Got home just before 3pm. DH is about the same as I left him. I was looking for a pair of sunglasses but I can't see any I like. They are all so big. You look like a bee wearing them. Anyway gave us a good giggle. I bought DS1 his birthday gift today. His b'day is on Sunday.

Tea is leftovers so I'm glad about that as I feel rather lazy. :D

N9eav Enjoy the last day of your break. Shame about the weather.

Hope you have a great day & <hug> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Sunny here this morning & I have 2 loads of washing on the line & one in the machine, I'm trying to get it dry before it starts raining again.
Off to feed the ducks later with the grandchildren, they don't mind the rain.
Hubby doesn't start work til 10 today so I haven't cooked his breakfast yet.
I need to post some thread to another MSE'r later, I have envelopes & stamps so no need to go to the post office, just to the letterbox. No idea what's for tea, I need to have a scrummge in the freezer.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning N9eav and all who follow I am up with the birds this morning as I've got my DDs four lads for the day.She has been called into work for a days casual at the Dockside and her DD has a day there as well so I have four little boys aged 5,8,9 @13 to amuse today I've just looked at the weather forecast and it says rain by 10.00 but clear by lunchtime so I think it will definitely be a picnic down at the country park this afternoon.Their good little guys and no trouble to me at all. A little bit of spoiling is the order of the day and I'm just the Granny to do it. I am going to see if Wilkinsons had a cheapo cricket set to take with us and I know the boys have a football so that will keep them going for awhile. We had a lovely day at the beach yesterday and were lucky that the sun shone down on us whilst we were there. Right I'm off to sort out rolls and picnic stuff as my lads have hollow legs and could eat a horse, hooves and all.
    have a great day everyone

Pouring down here again this morning. The garden is very, very wet this morning and my plants are looking very sorry for themselves!

Day off today but could not sleep so got up for a cup of tea. Going to the hospital today for various tests (gynae) so hopefully might get some answers and an indication as to how serious things are. Be glad when today is over. My DD is taking me as they said I will need someone to drive me home afterwards. Oh well will soon be over.

Supposed to be going away in caravan this weekend, to a place not far from York so have that to look forward to. I bought some new pyrex dishes with lids (half price at Morrisons) and have made some ready meals to take with us and have some more ready in freezer. Hope the weather improves a little.

    Have a good day everyone

Raining again here, chaos has been reigning while I was MIA.
Tripped over a raised service grate edge in town while shopping, thank heavens for the quick thinking of a young "Big Issue" seller who caught me as I went flying, else I would have done some serious damage I believe, as it was it jarred my (bad) foot and ankle.
Yesterday woke up to find that the caravan across the road had been stolen overnight. There as been a touring caravan at both theirs and ours for over 16 years now and never before any trouble! The police did catch it as it failed to stop at a red light in a town about 15 miles away, chased it and they took it off-roading trying to get away, so doubt if the caravan will be much use now, but at least they will get their contents back, eventually. I have to be honest and say theirs was the easiest to get to and the least secure (not that it stops anyone). Today ours will go missing when we go away in it!

Been having a bit of a cooking spell when we got back from town on Tuesday and hair done and housework + some ironing yesterday.

Contacted the tax office yesterday as have had no replies to letters sent from me and DH before we went to France, seperate envelopes, unfortunately they have not got them, we have just had a new computer system in and it has delayed things. Oh joy marvellous when they owe us. I didn't mention how many new computer systems I had been involved in putting in/using but never had an excuse not to have parts to build with, was not an option!!:mad:

Sorry for the rant, I think the rain has depressed all of us, though I think the conservatory roof has gone quiet now, fingers crossed as don't fancy getting drown packing th 'van.

Will be reading via Blackberry so responses will be short! (thankfully I heard your all say:D). Though McD at Cheltenham may have an extra customer now and again, I like their iced coffees while browsing. :rotfl:

Right better go and get my act together, be good (well not that good) (((hugs)))) all round.

Meh... work at 5.30 am as I have a meeting at 11 in my department, followed by a lunchtime meeting in my sister department and then we are going punting as a group later as someon is leaving so I need to get stuff done before the world wants a piece of me  I hate punting, I can't swim and hate water. We are going to get soaked by the looks of it too!

I have many cells to feed and they get upset if I ignore them! Our new student is very good, but quite high maintance so I have a load of his stuff to do as well, I still had a machine beeping at me at 10.30 pm last night that I couldn't fix and the mass spec had failed overnight too, so I am analysis-less on his samples and the main one was too poor quality for full analysis :( arrghh.... I'm the only chemist in the lab and I don't think people realise quite how much work all these samples are for me! He has worked in a really big department before so is used to having facilities to do things immediatly - whereas in my lab we operate a "leave-it-on-celyns-desk" policy and I do it all at the end of the day, which he doesn't quite get.

    and... breathe.....

Got home about 11.30 pm last night, haven't slept so made cookies and pizza. I used some of the chocolate I bought back from belgium and added it to the twinks mixture with some extra water so they spread out and are quite thin and crispy. They might not make it to coffee time as I am grazing on them and have been all morning :) OH is coming punting with us, so we will probably get food out this evening - just been paid for the examining and got a valuation for some of the music back yesterday from a friend, so will be fine.

    nic1lou2 - enjoy your break
webitha - sounds like your doing great :)
    n9eav - enjoy your day :)

have a good day all :) cel x

    Morning,

Felt grotty yesterday really tired, but made myself do some jobs as I have been putting them off.

Went around 3 different school outfitters to get DD's new uniform!

First one didn't do the new PE kit and had sold out of ties,

Second in the next town, had only 1 blazer left in and that had a mark that wouldn't sponge off in the shop - thye had PE kit, but it was different to our letter! They said oh another lady had that too and tried to sell us 2 different styles of hockey sock as the letter said plain white and they had been told black and gold and logoed! ( rest of the kit is black and white, so don't know where they got the gold from!)

I said, 'what did the other lady do?', 'oh she bought both' - well at £5 a pair she has more money to waste than me!

Third one had a blazer (slight mark under the pocket from embroidery)

So that was £80 without shoes, trousers, blouses or the jumpers that she will no doubt decide are necessary come December ( necessary I think in Halifax!) or any hockey socks, hockey boots or trainers!

In the shop I felt like a real skinflint, but have just thought that it will be a good £200 all in - extortionate!

Then we went Orange wednesday to see Harry Potter. VERY long film had quite a numb bum at the end!

Woke up at 4 am this morning worrying - I need a hysterectomy and the registrar told me I have anterior and posterior prolapse, too. They didn't bother me until he told me I have them, ofcourse now I can feel them!!
