We have a few Blu rays, but we tend to find they're not worth the extra money unless it's an animation you're watching, so we don't usually bother. But it's nice to have the option.
and the PS3 upscales brilliantly to.0 -
Ive just read that they're brining out a 120gb version of the PS3. But not sure if they're brining them out in Europe. If they did, that would mean that the 80gb version may go down in price.
Also I hear that there may be a slimline version of the PS3 coming out also
what to do what to do0 -
If you want to watch high def media, then a blue ray player will do just that, Films are expensive, but bargains can be found.
If you want to record onto blue ray, then you ideally need a HD input (sky, cable) and a blue ray recorder, very expensive.
A PS3 will record using PlayTV, but this is only digital TV, not HD.
If gaming is your thing, then a PS3 will do the trick................But you can get blue ray players for £100 and a xbox 360 for £100. So maybe a slighter cheaper option.
I use my PS3 for gaming and streaming of all my media. It is a great piece of kit and a bargain price for what you get, but at £300 an expensive outright buy.
Yes a slimer PS3 is in the making, also my PS3 has an upgraded hard drive of 320gb from 80gb.
Are you just looking for something to use your new TV for ? Is you TV HD Ready, Full HD or just an LCD ?0 -
My TV is HD ready, I wanted to record TV not necessarily HD but so I could watch it later or set it to record something that I would not be around to watch.
I also wanted a DVD player so thought that getting one that would record TV would be my best bet. I have played computer games in the past but havent recently.
Just wondering if its best to wait until the new style PS3 comes out so these ones will lower in price.0 -
One other thing, would the PS3 act as a multi region Blu-ray DVD player?0

No ~ it wont play blurays from another region
and im not sure youve taken in whats been said. The PS3 ALONE will NOT record tv. You need the extra PLAY TV gizmo. And then your limited to the hardrive size (But you can put a larger drive in if you like):idea:0 -
I have taken in what has been said, and am fully aware that a PS3 alone will not record TV. I have added this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Play-TV-PS3/dp/B0017UV0UG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1248965207&sr=1-1
piece of equipment to my amazon wish list in hope that when I split with £300 (dont wanna do it) i'll have a link to the item I need, just in case I forget.
I'd probably want a larger hard drive to be honest but until I start using the record function I wont know how much TV I'll store on it. Mainly thinking about those really good films they put on at 11pm sunday night silly TV people0 -
I dont have one but im sure I read somewhere that 1 hour is around 1 gig:idea:0
