Hit and run by an uninsured driver

If you didn't pay the tiny bit extra for "no claims protection" then you are pretty much sc**ed. Paying an excess is normal. I have no-claims protection and still lost £150 excess on a claim last year when a drunk driver hit my car that was parked outside my house.Well I have just received a call from DirectLine and they admit that the claim is not my fault but at this time they have no information about other driver and their insurance even though I gave them the reg and my witnesses confirmed it.
At this time I am loosing two years off my NCD and have to pay excess. In my view it is just unfair if they admit it is not my fault but still snatch away my NCD it should not be like that.
I am thinking of applying for the owners details from DVLA myself as from what I can see DL and Police is taking a !!!! really.
I just wonder how high you want insurance to be? If you want it to cover you, and everyone else, for every eventuality, then I guess we'd all be paying around £1000 a year.

Well they did, today.
Okay, I'll try and explain it again because you obviously didn't understand my last post  DL say they will return your costs if hit by an uninsured driver. To return your costs they have to have collected them from you. So they have to ask you to pay your excess etc before it is determined whether the other driver is insured or not. Then they will return the money to you if the other party is uninsured
or to put it another way, you can't return a library book or if you haven't already taken it from the library! In order to return it you have to have taken it in the first place!I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -

Oh I did understand, I am just having a moan... But still this is ridiculous that people are loosing their discounts for something like that.
I am not going to leave it like that because the guy who "investigtes" my case said they cannot locate the insurance on the other car, therefore I feel I should not be treated as I did the damage to my car but be treated as I was hit by an uninsured driver.
If you cannot locate the insurance on the guy the good chance is..... HE DOES NOT HAVE ONE!0 -
If you didn't insure your NCD, then you will lose your NCD by claiming on your insurance. It isn't a "no blame bonus", just a simple "no claims bonus". If you don't claim, you keep it.
