Hopefully direct line have told you the will suspend taking the excess off you and will claim it back from the third party, at least that's what my insurance co (morethan) did.
Nope they did not. I dont have courtesy car included in my policy but the lady from claims said I can get hire car and claim for it from the 3rd party insurance I don't know really if I want to do that as I am not sure if the perp has insurance on his car.

Possibly your insurers would contact the witnesses to get statements? That's what happened to me several years ago when someone drove into me (off a pavement too!) They all gave written statements and it helped no end - I didn't lose any no claims and all my costs were met.

That reminds me I was the only witness for someone else's "accident" many many years ago. I did get sent a form from the poor innocent parties insurance company. I was walking down the street when some guy (delibering pizza by car) drove squarly in to a park car and then drove off as fast as he could. It made me smile just now to remeber what I wrote. They guy was prosecuted by the police.

So it is not so grim as I thought. I thought i will have to fork out all the cash and loose NCD.

I would avoid it for sure unless you are desperate when its being repaired. If you have to use the bus or anything keep the receipts :D

I hope the same will happen to the idiot that drove into me.

I dont see why not, if you car is being repaired and you need to use alternative transport. You need to tell your insurance co about it. If you use you car a lot then hire might be necessary.

Ok thank you all for replies, they were really helpful. Put my mind at ease for now. I will get back to you how the claim went on. I'm going to sleep, had enough adventures for today.

it all depends if the guy is insured, If he is then you can claim your uninsured losses, If he is not then the MIB will probably take over the claim and the claim will be open for sometime.

Either way you will lose your ncd whilst the claim is open
