No-one will have received their pack yet. Mailing began today.

As for hanging onto them - I will be. The mention of merger approaches today is significant and there might also be an incentive in the form of additional shares for keeping. Also, if you don't sell upon flotation you have the chance to buy additional shares at a discount.

It has crossed my mind that Standard Life might publicise any approaches (whether they are decent or not) to encourage policy holders to hang onto their shares. This leaves fewer shares available for purchase when they're sold on the open market pushing up the share price.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do at the moment. need more information

All information you are voting on is available on their website in the proposal for members.

They have confirmed today they were approached by an unnamed company regarding a possible merger.

WOW. An unnamed company and a possible merger.

Just possibly a rumour to up the interest/share price/profits for the directors of this once-great company.

If you check post #5 you will see that this was being talked about 6 weeks ago. Its not new news. Assuming they will float, SL will be a takeover target and its more a case of when than if.

Wouldn't have thought so. Sure their legal advisers wouldn't allow it for a start.

:rotfl: Well no-one can say that the Standard management isn't going to get a well deserved barb or three over the coming months :rotfl:.

But I believe they have done a decent job for members over the last year, previous errors notwithstanding.

I think we may be in the grey area between mutual and Plc.

A mutual can keep stumm over such matters. As the Cheshire BS did after it was approached by the Portman BS.

Cheshire wrote to its members 10 months later :o , but only after the offer became public knowledge.

Perhaps but they don't really have anything to gain right now through disclosing this information. Now in the build-up to flotation I might be more cynical.

Agree with your comments on the turnaround. Their results show a significant improvement in 2005. Think the influence of Trevor Matthews has been great on them. Not one of the good old boys network in Edinburgh.
