  • Thanks RI.

Like I always said, can't wait for demutualisation ;)

I should have a surrender value from 2004 at home. IIRC this was £22k for a £30k policy started in 1985 at £45 per month.

Wife has a separate policy but I cannot remember when it started.

    :)

To me it wasn't just about the Board knowing best, the DM campaign was lead by carpetbaggers, and while I've nothing against them per se, by their very nature they're interested more in a quick profit than the long term future. Whereas my modest investments were long term ones, so based on SLs to then track record I made the wrong decision for all the right reasons. Or did I?
It wasnt really about your long term investments, it was about realising your stake in Std Life. You keep your long term investments and you make a quick profit. It was the best of both worlds, but unfortunately, too many people believed the Board was right.....mutual boards are way more unaccountable than plc boards, and only recently have started publishing things like executive pay.

Building Society boards are so unaccountable that they can reject any member resolution that in their opinion interferes with their management of the society......theyve even expelled members for doing just that in the past.

    Your not kidding!!

The bit I was interested in but couldnt understand was the MEP Mortgage Endowment Promise.

I know some time ago we were promised that Standard Life promised to make up any short falls on policys but then they retracted their promise (what a joke) saying profits hadnt reached 6 %.

Theres some bumf in the pack explaining how the MEP's will work if demutualisaton happens.
I personally cant make head nor tail of it.
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60

    That's not bad. £45 a month from 1985-2004 = 228 months x £45 = £10,260 so £12,000 up if my calculations are right.

Kantankrus Mare - I've had a close look at the Mortgage Endowment Promise section. Don't think anything has changed - more that they have had to quantify things. The MEP was a foolish thing from SL's point of view but a good one from the point of view of the customer.

We have 2 policies with SL . One endowment in joint names but OH first name and his private pension. I had a letter yesterday with a large booklet saying I'm not getting any shares. OH hasn't had a letter though.
