I would like to see the till receipt.
If it really is a saving then you expect to see a -£0.xxp for a multibuy.
If it really is a price hike, how to they show that?Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
In the bakery section of a Tesco it wasn't an offer more of just stupid pricing generally, there was a Battenberg cake of say 15cm long for £1, and then right next it was something called "Family Battenberg" which was about 20cm long for £1.85. They could at least put them on different shelves!Male.

This is an example of their clever and sophisticated marketing. A 15cm battenburg is not enough for a family, whereas two would be to much. So sell a 20cm one aimed at a family; and make a lot more profit out of them.
Supermarket packaging is an exact science, as is the placing of the products on the shelves. In the case of the battenburgs, there is a reason the two sizes are on the same shelf.
We all know why sweets are displayed at checkouts. Virtually all other products are also carefully placed in the store.0 -

Sounds spot on, but I bet a family nowadays could get their way through the bigger Battenburgh if necessary.

I'm not long back from a trip to Tesco. I managed to avoid the 79p - 2 for £2 offers, but found that they had overcharged me for apples and onions. The apples were £1.29 a kilo, but went through at £1.59. The onions were something like 10p extra. Small change, I know, but every little helps.
When I pointed this out to Customer Services, the woman just uttered a sigh. 'I'll have to weigh them again'. This took ages as she had to go and check the SEL too. I got my DTD, though, £1.10, but she acted like I'd just given her swine flu or something. Not a great customer experience.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I spend the most of my time in a supermarket, trying to work out the best way to buy cans of diet coke.
Do I get 2 x 6 packs which is buy one get 1 free?
Do I buy a fridge pack of 10?
Do I get a crate of 12 for the price of 9?
Do I get a massive 24 can pack?
Most of the time it works out cheaper to get 2 lots of 6 can multi-packs as they usually have the best offers.0 -
it happens elsewhere. I've managed to buy 4x individual bottles of coke for less than the price of the 4-bottle multipack when they've been on offer in sainsbury's before now.
I agree with the person who said the supermarkets aren't being stupid: they know exactly what they're doing. Condition people to think those stickers are always a bargain, then proceed to game them a bit. Not enough to remove the general perception of a bargain, just enough to make a killing on a few high markup and/or high volume items. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
They also like to condition people to think that multi packs are better value.
All supermarkets are up to this, here's a few things I've noticed:
In Sainsbury's it's cheaper to buy 2x 2kg Basmati rice as opposed to 1 4kg bag (the difference was about 30p, but it still counts).
Tesco have also been funny with this too. Their tinned tuna always has had silly prices, and at one point, it was cheaper to buy 4x tins as opposed to the multi pack. In my local store today, the branded John West stuff was in fact cheaper than the own brand multipack.
In their food to go section, they have recently withdrawn the chicken and bacon pasta salad,400g at £1.29 for the tub and replaced it with something half the size but nearly double the price (£2), with a different shaped pack and about 3 bits of chicken in.0
