Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Dear All,
I travel from London to Birmingham on Friday after work (at about 5pm)
and I travel from Birmingham to London on Monday morning before work (at about half 6am)
As you can see, these are all peak hours and I do this every week.
Could anyone recommend anything I could use that could save me money with the journeys I'm making (even if its a penny!) - I'm currently spending £23.05 (with Young Persons Railcard) for Return tickets every week from TheTrainLine and I have to travel Friday evenings and Monday mornings.
Many Thanks!0 -
Have a look at the thread re 50% off railfares, should be easy to find There's an offer (closing tomorrow I think so get in quick!) where you book through Scotrail but can travel anywhere and save 50%. I don't know how far in the future you can book, but you should be able to get several weeks half price travel this way.0

The site is very on and off, its weird! I book a ticket and then it 50% off, I removed it from the basket because I selected the wrong Fast Ticket machine and then it doesn't give the discount. I'm going to try register in a different e-mail address.0

Other users seem to have had problems but persistence seems to pay off. Site worked fine for me though, I was lucky!0

Link to HALF PRICE TRAIN TICKETS thread on the Grabbit board
Buy UK rail tickets with 50% off - book by 1st September for travel up to three months ahead.
Also includes a hint on how to get almost half price travel for Christmas.0 -
Hi
Cheap train tickets - as everyone's already said book the journey sperately yourself, work so much cheaper.
Also if you have a young person's railcard I've found transpenine express really good. Normally the student fair Huddersfield to York (return is ) about £11.00 Transpenine Express student getaway fare, £5.60! Bargain and you get a reserved seat. Have to travel off peak and book 6pm the day before but it is half the usual student fare!

Note - you have to travel off-peak. i.e. journeys starting after 9:30am mon-fri.
If that fits in with your job then you're lucky!0 -
What I really need, is some way of checking train routes, not just platform changes, anyone know where I can get this info?0
