Any of the rail booking sites should show them - the further ahead you book the more likely you are to get them.

Also the Vermin Trains have "1st Value Advance" tickets, £13.85 with Y-P railcard each way if booked early enough in advance (I booked 3 days in advance and got 2)

This was between Doncaster and Newcastle = Saved over £100!

Whoops sorry I thought I mentioned this, I need to be there earlyish tomorrow as well

I think National Express is looking like my best option there's a 6.30am from Liverpool for £18 return.

Can anyone find me a good deal please? Need a return (leaving early evening tonight and returning at midday on friday) from Lingfield to Stoke-On-trent. Got a student railcard.

Sorry to build your hopes up, I assumed you were going at the weekend, so put those dates in HERE to get the £12:50 fare. Short notice travel, although you can get lucky, tends to be more expensive, looks like its the coach then, or wait til saturday!

If you check the National Rail site, on the dropdown list for adding a railcard it offers "young person railcard(student railcard)" so yes it is officially a YP card but commonly referred to as a student card. It is also available for mature students over 25 so not solely for young people or students.

there you go, learn something new every day, but I am sure it is not called a "Student Railcard" it is a "Young Persons Railcard" and issued complimentary by banks etc. to students

    Hey there :D

Good news - book two single journeys i.e. Chesterfield - London, then London - Chesterfield. That way, standard class is £7 per person and, wait for it, First Class is just £14 per person. :T

Compare that with a return Standard of £131 and First Class at £153

Just enter the journey details as a return journey (dates, times, etc.) and it'll show you the prices for single fares too along with the expensive return fares. Only thing is that you'll need to travel on a specific train... make sure you don't miss the train otherwise you will pay dearly!

    www.nationalrail.co.uk - have fun :D

WOW crabman that is a fantastic tip, its first class all the way for us!!!
thank you very much for taking the time to post that for us, Im sure hundreds of others have asked a similar thing.

I cant get my head around the pricing system though, why would anyone buy a return ticket, even an advance return ticket is significantly more expensive than two advance singles, what am I missing, whats the catch? I do understand the restrictions for the advance ticket, that it is for a particular train, and you cant just hop on the next one if you miss it, I get that bit, and will watch the time. But why is the pricing system so complicated? actually I dont care now Im getting to london first class for £14:rotfl: :rotfl:
    THANK YOU AGAIN CRABMAN!!!
