I'm taking my daughter to a cheerleading competition as a surprise on the 8th July! Can't wait!
We're travelling return from East Croydon --> Brighton. The cheapest price I've been quoted is £23.40 return for the both of us!!
Does anyone know of any cheaper tickets I could get from somewhere?

if you buy online in advance. £11 or £20 total depending on your daughter's age0 -

ETA: Sorry for multiple posting tonight, but thank you SO MUCH! We meet all the criteria and I can't imagine there being a cheaper ticket than £11. You're a star.

Hi everyone
Does anyone know where I can book really cheap tickets for london to warrington (manchester) return?
A friend told me that they knew someone that used to pay £12.50 return but have lost touch with them so they can't find out how they got the tickets so cheap.
Does anybody else know?0 -

On the Virgin Trains website. I doubt if it will be £12.50 return but I'd guess you could do it for that each way if you book well in advance0 -

Unfortunately this is not allowed. e.g. If you buy a Standard Saver Return ticket from London to Glasgow - £98.20 which is valid (to Scotland only) on an early morning train and try to get off at Carlisle when you need a Standard Open Return for £236.00, an inspector can legitimately charge you the difference if your ticket get inspected when you get off the train. See the following from The Trainline.com regarding the restrictions of a Saver Return
http://www.thetrainline.com/Buy_Tickets/matrix/display_ticket_terms.asp?ticket_type=SVR
It specifically says that:
"
BREAK OF JOURNEYBreak(s) of journey are allowed on the return leg of the journey only - necessary changes of train are permitted at any time"

I have a family railcard, can I use it if there are no children travelling? It works cheaper for our 2 adult trip by adding 1 child,(but he wouldn't travel)?
thanks0 -
although it does say that you cant break your journey unless it is a train change.
This is absolutely true. e.g. a Standard Saver Return from Sheffield to Aberdeen is £105.40. However, one from Stockport to Aberdeen (Route York) is £102.20. You can buy the Stockport ticket and get on at Sheffield - without starting your journey from Stockport as long as you book yourself on a train which requires changing at Sheffield and then go on via Doncaster to York, but not one that requires changing at Manchester Piccadilly and then go on via Huddersfield and Leeds to York.
Alternatively, if both legs of your journey are on either a Saturday or Sunday, then you can buy a ticket Route Lancaster for £91.10 and go via York instead because under National Routeing Guide Easement No. 30072:
"Journeys travelling route Lancaster may travel via York. The easement applies Satudays and Sundays only and applies inboth directions."
So if you plan your journeys right, you can buy a Standard Saver Return ticket from Stockport to Aberdeen Route Lancaster for £91.10 and go from Sheffield to Aberdeen Route York (£105.40), saving £14.30!0
