I wondered if anyone could guide me, don't usually use trains.
We're booking to go from Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley - 10.45 depart from KC (21/04) and 12pm depart from Edb (23/04).
My mates have booked this for £25 booking two singles, I'm being quoted by gner £38 per single ticket.
I've gone to national rail, they quoted me £24.50 per single, making it just under £50 but then say which vendor I want to pay through. When I select gner it just sends me right back to the gner site where the prices are still really high.
I don't want to pay nearly fifty quid more than my mates paid, it's meant to be a cheap weekend! Does anyone have any ideas to get this price down - can't find promo codes etc anywhere and we want to be on the same train.
HELP!! please!
Cheers
Lc
I have checked both National Rail and GNER websites and on both the fare is £24.50 each way. If you book through the GNER website, there is a 10% web discount, bringing the fare to £23.80 for each single. There are no further charges levied. The £12.50 fares for each train appear to have sold out.0 -
We are a family of five (2 adults 3 kids) looking to travel Aberdeen - York return at easter. Trainline quotes £205 with no railcard but I wonder if anyone who knows anything about rail cards could tell me if I could save by buying a family rail card? We are unlikely to use a railcard for another journey this year.0

By buying two singles, the cheapest return ticket for 2 adults & 3 kids is £155 - without a railcard. Using a Family Railcard, it does not reduce the price of advanced GNER singles.
What are the actual dates you are looking for?sorry no links in signatures by site rules - Forum Team 20 -

3rd and 5th of april. Where do I find £155?0 -
I live on the outskirts of Durham and was quite surprised at the variation in train prices. I am travelling to Milngavie, Scotland in April and was quoted £60 for a single from Chester-le-Steet to Milngavie. So, I did a Chester-le-Street to Newcastle which came in at £3.40 and a Newcastle to Milngavie which was £12.45 making the journey £15.85! I shake my head in wonderment as to how GNER can hope to get away with that. Still I suppose if you are not as persistant in hunting down good prices as most MSE's are then that is what will happen. The joke was I emailed GNER and said send the tickets in one envelope - can't they replied, two different reference numbers so they will be sent out in two separate envelopes - ok, fine by me as GNER pay the postage!

I need some help finding the cheapest fare from Paddington to Evesham or somewhere not too far from Stratford upon Avon.
I will be traveling sometime after 8:30pm and hopefully before 10pm on a Thursday evening but don't know exactly how long it will take me to get through customs etc at the airport.
I haven't decided on the trip back so not sure if I should buy that yet but if it would be possible to get a very cheap return on Monday morning or early afternoon, I might take that.
I am so lost when it comes to traveling in the UK so all help will be greatly appreciated.0 -

Hiya,
Take a look at http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Default.aspx - you will need to register but that is no biggie. I took a look using the gner site, purely because I am registered with gner, and their price was £29 for a single leaving London Paddington at 1352 hours on Monday 2 April as an example. I have found that using the website of the company that services the line is usually cheaper.
Let me know if I can help at all. Best wishes,
Chris0 -

Thank you Chris.
My biggest problem is knowing where I should be looking, UK geography isn't my strongest point
.
I think I am already registered with First Great Western since I travelled with them last year but I have never heard of this Gnear until I read about it here. What is that?0 -

GNER is the North East carrier - I live in Durham so that is my preferred choice - it is always cheaper to go to the carrier on that line - in my experience anyway.
I am going out in a couple of mins now - drop me an email at Chaufeurse43@aol.com and I will help all I can when I get back in a couple of hours - ok?
