found the cheapest tickets i could Reading to Darlington on East Coast site then tried it on mytrainticket.co.uk, same train is £4 more for each single!

Yep. East Coast is generally cheaper on their own lines. I find the same thing with east Coast v Redspotted. Not much but a couple of quid.

  • okay train experts can someone help?
Have booked tickets for my son and husband to go to the game - Middlesborough v Southampton this Saturday................but................we live in Aberdeen.
Any ideas how to get them there on the train as cheap as possible - going down on Saturday morning and back up on Sunday as it is a 5pm kick off.
Two very desparate Saints fans - couldn't book early as we were not sure we could get tickets.
    Any help appreciated.............

Well a superoffpeak return is £106 each - flexible ticket that can be bought on the day and I think is valid on all Sat/Sun trains. There don't look to be any useful advances

How old is your son? If he's 15 or under it would be worth getting (for £28) a Family and Friends Railcard which brings the fare down to £90 ish total for the two of them

You could try this, split at Edinburgh Waverley and use the Daily Records travel anywhere in Scotland for £19 deal you will need the two passwords (SPRING and OFFER) and a voucher in tomorrows Record (or from last week's Record)

    Aberdeen to Edinburgh £19 Return
Edinburgh to Middlesbrough £67.20 Super Off Peak Return
    Total Return £86.20 per adult

    Dear All,

I am looking to travel from Warrington Bank Quay to London Euston - could anybody recommend the best sites to search ?

It is for 2 adults to travel on Monday 11 June and Monday 25 June (both same day returns).

We can travel just after 10:00 a.m. and return after 7:00 p.m. if this makes it cheaper.

    Thanks for any help.

Just had a quick look on the East Coast website and there's not many/any cheap advance tickets for the times you want to leave Warrington in fact it's cheaper to buy an Off peak return for £74. But coming back, after 8pm there's two cheap trains direct to Warrington Bank Quay the 20:30 and the 21:10 prices start from £12 each single.

For the trip to London try going 'via Manchester Piccadilly' (use more options on the journey planner). You can then get the 09:59 for £19 or the 10:25 for £13.50 each single but this train takes a bit longer as you have to go via/change at Manchester (start at Warrington Central) but it does save you some money.

apologies in advance guys, I only use the train very occasionally and have never looked at this route.

We are having a couple of days in London, leaving Nottingham on 30th August, returning on 31st August. One adult, one child. When would the cheapest fares come out for these dates, and what should I be looking for? On that route would I be cheaper trying to split-ticket, or not?

    Thanks,

These tickets are not out yet.

Suggest that you go to Home page of https://www.eastcoast.co.uk and request an email when the cheapies are available. At the moment it is about 20 July.

I have no doubt that someone more qualified than me will be along to advise on split-ticketing.

As a rough guide, the fare if booked immediately that tickets are available will be £18.15 each way for adult and child. One third cheaper if you get a family and friends card, but only worthwhile if you intend to make other rail journeys.

If you manage to get advance cheap tickets then splitting becomes academic. Bedford might be a place to try if you can't.

East MIDLAND trains operate the direct service, though East Coast do offer connections, usually via Grantham

Megatrain also operate the route and can be very cheap

No point in looking more than 12 weeks ahead of travel - and be patient even then.
