Hi, I booked an off peak return journey from Bristol Temple Meads to Penrith, with a disabled railcard for £65.40. Outward 24/12/10, return 30/12/10.

    The ticket conditions specify
    • This ticket allows travel on any permitted route.
    • Flexible ticket only valid at specific off-peak times of the day.
Does this mean I can get on an earlier/later train if required? I called the helpline but they weren't very forthcoming with information.
    Yes you can.
You can use those tickets on any train.
You don't even need to travel back on 30 Dec. You have up to one month to return.
  • Does my outward journey need to be at the exact time on 24/12/10 or can it be later that day?

    Thanks for your help.

It can be used at anytime on the 24th.

But don't take my word for it.

Try one of the journey planners and see which trains your ticket is valid for.

I used East Coast Trains website.

Remember, trains on 24 Dec will be very busy. Might be worth getting seat reservations if you can.

Have a look at East Coast Trains website.

You will see that there are only two Leeds departures that morning to arrive at Harrow on the Hill before 10am...

Dep Leeds 05:05, arr London Kings Cross 07:29. Advance Single = £17.80.
Dep Leeds 06:10, arr London Kings Cross 08:40. Advance Single = £27.60.
You need to allow about an hour from Kings Cross to Harrow on the Hill, Metropolitan Line tube, usually direct from Kings Cross.

For the return leg, probably the following is best...
Dep London St Pancras 18:29, arr Leeds 21:49. Advance Single = £24.00.
Same tube as before. St Pancras is right next to Kings Cross.

To get those outward fares you must book via the above mentioned website.

All fares include the tube. You must travel on the booked trains with these tickets.

Just got my train tickets in the post.

I am travelling from Grays to York so will need to get off at Fenchurch Street and use the underground from tower hill to kings cross. Will my ticket be valid for the underground too as I only seem to have received one ticket in the post for the whole journey from grays to york. Will it be ok to put the ticket into the barrier at fenchurch street. Bit worried it will be swallowed up and not returned.

I know not a bargain ticket query but some of you here seem to be seasoned train travellers :D

    Thanks in advance .

Yes it will include the cross London tube travel.

Your ticket should have a 'plus' symbol (known as a maltese cross) on it by the ROUTE box.
