Any split ticketing suggestions would be welcome.....

I have got a price of £28.90 via Southern Railways website
    Sat/Sun 28/29 August or Sat/Sun 24/25 July?

    Dates don't matter.

If that £28.90 is return, then that's a good price.

    Sorry, it was 24th/25th.

That is the Standard Price with a 16-25 railcard. I'm looking for suggestions for somewhere I can try to split ticket....

    Ah... railcard.

Couldn't beat your price... didn't know about railcard.

    Split at London Victoria.

Southern only Advance Single from Cosham to Victoria on Sat at £2.50.
Southern don't go to Cosham on Sundays, so Southern only Advance Single from Victoria to Havant on Sun at £2.50.
Singles from/to Fareham to Havant or Cosham are £2.65 & or £1.60.

Off Peak Return with railcard London Victoria to Ware, inc tube Victoria to Tottenham Hale = £13.35.

    Total = £22.60.

Must buy some of those tickets from Southern Trains to get those prices.

  • I work at 1 of the major stations in the UK and the best way to get cheap tickets is to book in advance and it does not necessarily have to be trainline.com As a matter of fact I have seen lots of people with tickets bought from that site with problems with their tickets as well as those that call national rail only to be given not necessarily wrong information but inadequate info.

For instance if you order an advance ticket from train line and for some reason you have changed your journey time, you have to make sure that they also sent the original tickets as sometimes they do not. I know as I have seen it and without the original ticket, your ticket is not valid so like I said you have to make sure trainline posted all your tickets including the seat reservation.

I have seen lots of people come to my station thinking they have the right tickets only to be told that their tickets are not valid. This is because people that work at say Guildord would not know the time restrictions at say London Euston station.

I have seen folks wait for hours at station because of peak periods or fork out over £100 on tickets; sometimes the upgrade is more than the original so I decided to create a webpage that covers all the major ticket types in the different major different stations including where you can use your oyster pay as you go.

If you are interested you can pm me and I will send you the link as I am not allowed to post the link here due to spam

I don't think most people on this forum use thetrainline as it's been pointed out many times that companies such as TransPennine Express use the trainline booking engine but don't pass on the £1 fee.

So does your site cover all major stations or just those with direct services to London? Liverpool Central, Manchester Victoria and Blackpool North are all major stations but are amoung those that get overlooked by people in the South East as they don't have a London service.

Anybody help with a journey from Long eaton to exmouth departing 19th August after 0900 and returning probably Monday 23rd August after midday time. Best I have managed so far after extensive research is 87 quid. Bit disappointed really as spent ages researching and found nothing cheaper. Its about a fiver cheaper if I purchase a rail card (i'm 25) plus I'm travelling with my little boy (he's 4) so he goes for nothing!!

Thanks to those who helped out with this. Managed to get the tickets for a combined total of 45 quid which included paying for the 4 year old so we both got a seat. Worked out cheaper to go from D*rby and as we had a family and friends railcard even better!! I purchased through Cross Country Trains website and the tickets arrived after 2 days. Didn't have to pay any handling fees or crap like that, just a pound for delivery. Thanks

I can recommend East Coast (co.uk) for bookings, just used them myself & they don't charge for 1st class delivery (or booking fees) and have a much better ticket search engine than most (all?) of the others - it's much easier to see which ticket prices are available on a given day.
