Does anyone know if the price of train travel increases tomorrow? Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought it did and so was going to buy my ticket today. Doe anyone know? It's Guildford to Banbury I need to travel on Sunday.

Some tickets are going up, some are going down.

If you buy a ticket for travel on Sunday it will be at the new price regardless.

    How about these times...
    Dep Sheffield 08:32, arr St.P 11:27. Advance Singles = £35.70 (with Railcard).
    Dep St.P 15:55 or 16:25, arr Sheffield 18:04 or 18:59. Advance Singles = £27.20 (with Railcard).

These fares only available when booked online via East Midlands Trains.

    Hi there,

Thank you very much for finding that out for me. It's perfect times and great price. I will be booking in the next few day.

    Much appreciated

Thanks, so it doesn't matter if I buy my tickets today or on Sunday then for travel on Sunday, the price would be the same?
  • I've just looked for tickets from Exeter St Davids to London (Waterloo usually being the cheapest) for end of April and it's booking tickets up to the middle of July with no cheap ones?!

I have booked the trains loads of times and nothing has ever been available more than 3 months in advance. Does this mean that they've decided to allow advanced booking 6 months ahead and I have missed the APEX tickets or will they be released 3 months before the date that I need them? I normally register for an email when they go on sale but neither FGW, Virgin Trains or TheTrainLine are allowing me to do that.

    What's going on?!

OH is doing the London Marathon but I am a terrible traveller and can only travel by train or car (frankly, I don't want to even CONSIDER tackling London or leaving my car in a car park for the weekend) and we can't afford to pay £300 to get up there and back.

According to the National Express East Coast website there are no Advance Fares available beyond 19th March for South West Trains (they operate the route from Exeter to Waterloo via Honiton).

As a general note when you come to book (hopefully a bit later in the year when the Advance Fares will be made available) most of the fares are £13 single if you can avoid coming back from Waterloo around peak time 1600-1800.

They don't release any tickets more than three months ahead as they don't know what track maintenance works are scheduled any earlier than that.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

It's allowing you to BUY full price tickets. I doubt if it will actually BOOK or reserve anything, and the train you ostensibly buy it for may be at a different time by the time you travel. There's really no point in you doing so.

Just be patient. There will be cheaper tickets
  • Thanks guys. I phoned FGW who said its simply that the APEX tickets haven't been released yet. Duh!!! The ones showing are open travel tickets, hence the price.

    I am now suitably embarrassed!
