I'm going home on a pre-booked Advance ticket tomorrow, Southport to Hereford via Chester. Not a split ticket. I will check in the morning re. cancellations etc., but in the unlikely event that Merseyrail get me to Chester, but by the time I get there Arriva have cancelled my Chester to Hereford train, telling me to travel the following day instead on the same ticket, am I covered for travelling back to Southport (so that I have somewhere to sleep!) or am I expected to either hang around Chester station all night or pay my own way back to Southport?

(Just to clarify, my "in the unlikely event" refers to a sudden change in weather causing cancelled train at short notice, not the chances of Merseyrail getting me anywhere!)
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Hi, I am one of 4 adults looking to travel from Peterborough to Swansea on the 27th Feb. We need to be there by 14.30 and will be leaving about 17.30. Anyone know the cheapest way to do this, ie where to split the journey.

    Many Thanks

You probably realise that an Super Off Peak Return is £96.10 each (£384.40 total for all four of you).

You have specifically asked about splitting, but have you considered being a little flexible in your travelling times?

For example, by leaving Peterborough at 05:45 (arr Swansea 11:55), and leaving Swansea at 19:29 (arr Peterborough 01:21), the total for Advance Singles for the four of you is £152.00.

Info from East Coast Trains website.

You may be able to reduce this further by splitting... try Reading, Swindon or anywhere else that the train stops really.

looking at the best price to get from Sheffield to Edinburgh - on Easter weekend, going good friday and coming back Easter Monday - best we've found is Cross Country trains for £32 or £38 (can't remember which!)

Anyone any advice on how to reduce this?

    TIA

Get yourself on to the East coast Trains Website, and you can get cheap advance singles for £13.80, which includes a 10% discount only available from their website.

    Total Return £27.60

Planning on Leeds > Birmingham New St day return trip next Saturday 16th, can anyone do better than the £20 ballpark I have for the return at the moment? (i.e. two £10 advance singles).

If it helps I can start my paid ticket at Wakefield since I have a all zones MetroCard for West Yorkshire and also a YP railcard.
