Can anyone suggest if there is a cheaper way of getting from London Waterloo or Paddington to Westbury in Wiltshire or Bath Spa on Friday 6 Feb leaving London after 4pm. I was going to book last night and a single ticket was about £10-£11, now the cheapest is £26.75 to Westbury or £31.70 to Bath Spa using a Young Persons Railcard.

I think you are missing a trick somewhere

There's still a £9.90 single on the 1850 from Waterloo to Westbury. To find it go into advanced options and specify a route Salisbury

Or £10.55 to Bath on the same train

I used the First Great Western site but it won't be exclusive to them. All sites should be manipulable to show them if you know how.

To find it put London (don't specify the station) to Westbury or Bath Spa as normal.

When the times come up (which will almost invariably be from Paddington)instead of going straight to find fares click the advanced options button and insert go via Salisbury, then go to fares. The Waterloo trains will then appear with hopefully cheap fares. (They are usually available well after the Paddington ones have sold out)
  • I'm looking for London to Glasgow - one way on 22nd February.

Usually I'm great at finding split tickets but I just can't find anything cheaper than about £40!!!

There are coaches that are pretty cheap but I travelled from London to Glasgow last month on a coach...11 hours. NOT fun. I'd prefer train so I can take my netbook and get some work done on my way home.

    Thanks,

    Kirsty

    Try this hope its not to complicated;
    Outward 29th Jan
    Carlisle to Birmingham NS 12:07 £18 1 adult 1 child book/buy Via Megatrain.com
Birmingham NS to Colchester15:30 £22.95 Advance Single 1 adult and 1 child & FF card

    Return 3rd Feb
Colchester to Birmingham NS 08:45 £18.30 Advance Single 1 adult and 1 child & FF card
    Birmingham NS to Carlisle 12:20 £6 1 adult 1 child book/buy Via Megatrain.com

    Total £65.25 :j

With the advance singles and I'm sure its the same for the megatrain tickets you must travel on the booked trains. As these are split advance tickets there is around 30 min for you to catch your connection at Birmingham but if the train from Carlisle or Colchester is later than this it could cause you problems, thats the risk with these cheap tickets
