Afternoon all
Up to 13 NSDs out of 15 this month :j.....
We have just had a wander and picked 1.5lb of blackberries (blackberry grater cake here I come) -its enough for 2 as per the recipe -but hubby knows there are some more ready on camp -so he is going to pick some tomorrow -Im hopping to make a substantial tray bake one to cut into pieces for the freezer -fingers crossed
Lunch today was pork steaks with Hm stuffing, steamed potatoes, carrots, peas -and runner beans from the garden nomnomnom -and I now have 28 meals worth of beans in the freezer -oh and up to 4 courgettes in the kitchen again :rotfl:
Tea tonight is fresh baked bread -(yet to go in the remoska) with ham salad on -with home grown tomatoes :T
I think by the middle of the week I "might" need a couple of bits -but nothing major ....
Fingers crossed that the month carries on like this as I wanted a super frugal month
hope everyone is well-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Rosieben - thanks for the info on Double Cream - DH has panic attacks about wasting cream and tries to plan meals around a drop of cream but not anymore hehe

Hi all
Hope everyone is getting on ok with their budgets. Just popped in to say that Asd* are having a 'pet event' at the moment in conjunction with PDSA, and lots of pet products are cheaper (my local Asd* had stuff for cats/dogs/rabbits etc).
I'm very very close to my budget already, determined to make it though! :A0 -
Afternoon All!
Popped to ASDA with a friend and ended up purchasing a few treats:
3 for £1 pick n mix sweets, fresh bread, muffins, chewing gum, naan bread...
Came to pretty much £4 so will be adding that to my signature!!0 -
After making my beef casserole this afternoon., I sorted out my bottom kitchen cupboard. :j
The casserole will be ready to serve shortly :T (can't wait) I stuck some lentils in and rather than use the schatz satchet, I made my own stock with red wine
, beef bovil/hot water and some herbs. Not sure how it will turn out but it looks ok. I also added a tin of tomatoes plus all the sad onions i had in my fridge and used up the peppers too plus a bit of frozen brocolli/sweetcorn/carrots. Made some strawberry jelly to have for pudding then found a heinz chocolate pudding and pot of custard lurking in the cupboard so that wins the day and I will serve this instead saving the jelly for tomorrow.
The casserole will do for tomorrow's tea also and there will still be plenty for the freezer
So bottom kitchen cupboard all tidy, well much more organised. Have rather a lot of heinz beans and various tuna satchets/tins oh and lots of rice !! (rice bought at bargain price when local somerfield shut down)
Just one more cupboard to go now. have a stockpile of baking ingredients too so will look out some recipes and perhaps some baking will be the order of the day next weekend. :j was tempted to make crispie cakes this afternoon but chocolate not cheap enough at local shop!!0 -
I always drink decaff earl grey tea but it costs £1.99 for 50 tea bags, even Mr S own brand is the same price as Twinnings. Can anyone recommend a brand of decaff normal tea bags for me to drink instead as I am trying to cut the shopping bill further? Thanks x
Hi XSpender - Asda are currently doing 2 boxes of 80 teabags for £2, this includes their Decaff, earl grey etc etc. HTH
Just caught up on the last few pages, will log back on tomorrow as I need to update my total with spends this weekend, hope you are all doing well.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Hi there, I was wondering if I could join? I have tried once before but it didn't last long
Having to really tighten those purse strings from this month so my August Grocery Challenge will be £200
That's for 4 of us and I may be completely off the mark. Our month goes from 10th to 10th, I hope that's OK.
Did a small shop today for essentials as money went in a bit early and have already spent £17.61.
Look forward to chatting to everyone through the month.August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
NSD : 2/80 -
Morning everyone,
just updated my total and managed to catch up with the thread, it`s looking worse than i feared but i`ll manage this month if it kills me
The freezer is absolutely rammed full and i can`t fit a single thing in there, the tins in the tin cupboard are piled so high that they are falling over. Someone tell me why i still want to buy foodNever mind i shall try and curb it.
Anyone have a tried and tested beetroot chutney recipe? i`ve harvested and boiled my beets and now i need to make chutney as well as pickling some.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
good morning everyone
it is pouring here today but trying to look on the bright side, very good for the gardens.
rosieben: thankyou for the reply re philly and cream, very useful. Will stock up on philly next time I do a supermarket shop.
I can assure you I may appear organized but that is only because I am on holiday from work just now and have time for all the jobs I have planned to do for ages. Things are never this organized when I am working but I still have a fantasy of one day becoming a domestic goddess.:rotfl:As my sig states "it takes a long time to eat an elephant........."
hope everyone has a good day.It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!0 -
Morning everyone - just logged on to update my total, pleased so far with how things are going so fingers crossed.
I think it has helped with things being ready in the Garden like Salad potatoes, courgettes, blackberries, spring onions, rocket, lettuce etc - just waiting for some Tomatoes to ripen and I'll be even happier.;)
Dinner tonight is going to be a Beef Curry using up leftover Roast Beef, I shall also be adding some veg and some more Courgettes from the Garden!!
I too have a load of Beetroots that need boiling up, I usually just use them in Salads but will look in my Recipe books and see what I can come up with and let you know unless someone has a tried and tested recipe.
Have a good day everyone.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.
