I feel a bit scummy to be honest as the only reason I'm watching it is to gawp in disbelief at how wasteful people are, then feel smug about my month-in-advance mealplanning.:o:o
It's a good program though, there must be loads of people out there who don't know how to shop or cook and it will hopefully give them the ideas they need to sort themselves out
ETA: It didn't mention how many the £21000 is feeding, but as i have no life, i did some quick maths...and it works out at £403 per week....so i'm hoping they have a household of at least 30.August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
i think we all love reality type stuff where you can shout at the telly/computer and feel good about yourself lol
isnt there supposed be a REAL thrifty type show coming up soon? I think there might have been call outs for people to take part here on MSE?
I would sooooooooo love that!! I miss the days of "wow, i hadnt thought of that, that will save me ££ss!!" where as now its " you spend WHAT? that costs HOW MUCH?" :rotfl:[STRIKE]Debt 01.01.2010 = £70,000[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 01.02.2011 = £53,495 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 05.05.2011 = £51,959 [/STRIKE]

Just finished watched this week's episode with hubby. When it finished with the whole 'Next Week' thing, he gasped and went '£21,000?!? and they're wasting a third of it?!? but, but, but', he spluttered.
'IT'S A SIN,' I exclaimed in my best evangelical manner.
'Cor,' he said. 'Old Style is a religion, isn't it? You're like the Bene Gesserit...only with Stardrops.'
I love him. Lots.:hello:0 -
you should be proud he realises it is a religion, my fella doesnt know what stardrops is...or where we keep it lol[STRIKE]Debt 01.01.2010 = £70,000[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 01.02.2011 = £53,495 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 05.05.2011 = £51,959 [/STRIKE]

I've taught my disciple well. Once he was frivolous, now he asks 'can we get that on Quidco?...and is there a discount code?' Once he bought chicken breast, now he knows the mantra of the rubber chicken.
He admires the bottle of Stardrops that we bought in October last year that still has about 2 centimetres left in, and bows his head when the washing soda gets tipped into the washing powder.
Sometimes, I think he's more fanatical than me. Ah, the delights of the newly born Old Styler.

can you pop round to mine and show my fella the path of the thrifty man? I am sure he can be saved, he just needs to have faith in one cleaner for all and that you can make 500g of mince last till next tuesday! :rotfl:[STRIKE]Debt 01.01.2010 = £70,000[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 01.02.2011 = £53,495 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Debt 05.05.2011 = £51,959 [/STRIKE]

I am not really a fan of Jamie Oliver but I think that his ministry of food was a lot better.
I even bought the book:DBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
