I enjoyed last night's programme and great advice re planning, preparing ahead and shopping to a list, although the boys didn't quite get the hang of that at first
I was impressed with how they took things on board and began to enjoy cooking rather than it being a chore; they did really well.
I missed the bit about jointing the chicken so may have to watch online and take notes  that's useful stuff!
Allegra is growing on me, I like her style... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I nearly did, but decided against it. I guess if IH is ignored 'he' (I suppose) will leave again."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I enjoyed last nights programme too. Very tempted to try jointing a chicken, the meatballs looked tasty and I deffinitely want to make the cookie dough. I already make a fish pie which my son loves. And I agree, Alegra is good, she is growing on me too.***Dont save what is left after spending, spend what is left after saving***0

I always buy a whole chicken and joint it. Have taught Oh to do it also. I sometimes roast the carcass and strip any meat for sandwiches.
Roast the carcass, then boil it up for stock. Check this link for me asking how to make soup from it, and Pinks helpful info as well as everyone elses.!
yeah, i really like Allegra too. And Paul is quite nice to watch as well;)A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I really enjoyed last night's programme - it was a lot more accessible than some of the previous ones; OH and I have a fairly decent food budget and cook fairly fancy/gastro dishes most nights, but the families spending £300+ every week just made it seem a bit too aspirational, this was much more down to earth. I'd like to try the fish pie, do you think it'd work with tinned sardines/mackerel? It looks like it'd be easy with salmon too, but sardines are already in my storecupboard!2015 comp wins - £370.25
Recent wins: gym class, baby stuff
Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
oh paul is a hunk * drools*!!!!
allergra is nice, growing on me and i am finding her even more lovely as we watch each weekly episode, my god!! just googling her and it brings up something about being expelled from school from having sex in the shower!!! my oh my!! so she isnt such a wee angel after all lol!!0 -
did anybody else think as the lad were making the tomato bed rock 'Bloody hell.. how is that going to feed 5 strapping lads three times???'0

Yep - it was a dinky little pan of tomato sauce for using with meatballs...... never mind having any left to use with other meals !!!
But I had to applaud the way they shrugged off having used it all - followed by a trip out for double the ingredients and a batch cook to save time on future meals (having learned the hard way)

I really recommend jointing a chicken to anyone who hasn't. It's very easy and incredibly economical especially if you buy free range. I haven't bought chicken breasts for a couple of years and will joint a chicken once a week. I use the breast meat and bag and freeze the dark meat until I have enough for a casserole.0
