OH could not stop laughing when they did the surprise meal at the end,he asked me where all our whole sea bass was(OK I know they got it in for tea but it must have cost a fortune) plus all the other bits and pieces they just happened to have in the fridge /freezer.I do try and plan well so no waste maybe he will appreciate me more after watching this!

some of the puds seemed expensive to me especially at this time of year when people are giving away apples, blacks etc.

all the family really needed to do was plan ahead to save lots of waste which is easy for anyone to do

They have covered seasonal fish, so they still may cover seasonal fruit/veg.:D

I'm certainly not arguing with you, I misunderstood what you meant about them "shooting themselves in the foot".
I read it again & I'm sorry I thought you meant they were being extravagant by using those ingredients (salmon & cheese) rather than being extravagant with them. I fail to see how they were extravagant with the cheese?

I only meant that they seemed to be using up cheese for the sake of illustrating the 'use up what you've got' theme when in fact cheese will last till next week or the week after in the fridge; in actual fact I doubt he used much of the cheese in the recipe he subsequently made but saying things like that is misleading for those who are just trying to find their way with budgetting; all in all I'm enjoying the programme and I think its getting some good messages across. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I suppose at the end of the day it depends how we each individually view the programme, wouldn't take for us all to be the same, as my Gran used to say! We all have a opinion on how this programme comes across and I just think it could have been money better spent on a programme that benefitted the majority :) ( JUST MY OPINION) :)

  • It makes you think how much the middle/upper classes waste whilst those of us on tight budgets have always had to think outside the box.

What is the majority? (serious question, i don't know any statistics or hard facts)

  • I'm afraid I had to give up watching last night, it annoyed me too much!

I thought the programmes would cover all budgets, including people living off benefits, but everyone so far has had such huge budgets it is not even vaguely relevant to my situation. £400 per week is more than I earn.

Also, for the dinner party challenge, they had to cook a three course meal with all their leftovers, which I thought was great. Then they had an extra £2.50, which I thought was reasonable, but then I realised they had an extra £2.50 per head! And the leftovers included 3 seas bass! I rarely spend that much per head when I have people over for dinner, without any extras!

It is fair enough that people at the higher end of spending need help cutting down, but so do people with £40 a week for a family. I like the ideas behind it, but this show seems to be made entirely for the middle to upper classes.

I know exactly where you are coming from; and I can't wait for Martin's show in September, that will really open eyes and show them how the other half has to live, no gastronomy just simple, wholesome and healthy meals from very little

I honestly saw it, we need to make a dish & what have we got lurking we can chuck in it.
If they hadn't used the cheese they would have had to use something else:confused:

Its not waste if its in the freezer is it:confused:

My freezer is full of "happy" chicken breasts, salmon fillets (portioned myself from whole salmon), Surrey Whites sausages, sirloin steak, roast beef, all bought on offer, I don't have a meal to make with them, but they are things I buy anyway so I bulk buy when they are reduced:money:
