The problem I had with rabbit, (bearing in mind that although I don't eat meat, I don't mind preparing and cooking it for the family) was cutting it up. It looked very human like and I felt quite squeemish handling it.

Thanks Lola. I am pleased to see it's not just me.
No, it's not just you, Reverbe - to say you're veggie if you eat fish is just bizarre

I liked the look of the chicken - but Mr T's delivered my shopping last night and they had run out of chicken (I get the frozen ones) so will have to wait til next week - might have to go and make another bakewell in a bag - DS2's birthday today so and in the middle of baking goodies anyway
  • I'm afraid I had to give up watching last night, it annoyed me too much!

I thought the programmes would cover all budgets, including people living off benefits, but everyone so far has had such huge budgets it is not even vaguely relevant to my situation. £400 per week is more than I earn.

Also, for the dinner party challenge, they had to cook a three course meal with all their leftovers, which I thought was great. Then they had an extra £2.50, which I thought was reasonable, but then I realised they had an extra £2.50 per head! And the leftovers included 3 seas bass! I rarely spend that much per head when I have people over for dinner, without any extras!

It is fair enough that people at the higher end of spending need help cutting down, but so do people with £40 a week for a family. I like the ideas behind it, but this show seems to be made entirely for the middle to upper classes.

I have just made the braised mince recipe, its delish I used 500g of minced beef instead of the 1kg the recipe recommends and I just filled it up with lentils instead. :D

I have split the mince into 3 portions and there is loads , I have frozen 2 portions as 'bedrock' mince and turned the other into a cottage pie for tonight.
    nomnomnom.

One of my local butcher's sells rabbits for £2.99 each. I'm off to get one this afternoon and will cook it overnight in the slow cooker.

rabbit was regularly on the menu when I was growing up, I loved it best roasted with lots of stuffing; my dad kept ferrets so he caught his own and I'd watch him skin and paunch it - the smell was truly awful :D
