Why do you need a bread maker? Get a big bowl, some scales and a couple of bread tins. Ten mins hands on time at the weekend;)
As already asked, can I have a link to a fool proof recipe using sachets of yeast?
I tried that artisan bread in 5 minutes a day thing and it was a disaster
I would love to bake bread if it is really that quick? I always thought it took hours.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Rabbits are lovely. Truly an underrated and underused meat in this country. Never understood why people are so squeamish about eating them as they are just countryside pests!
OH does a lovely recipe poaching it in cider with carrots, onions and leeks. Goes down a treat with sauteed potatoes and a chunk of crusty bread to mop up sauce.
Didn't get to watch it tonight as got home from work late
Will do catch up later.
Rabbits were one of the staples of the wartime diet in this country, I think that people don't eat them now because it is a meat that hasn't been promoted - probably because it is cheap it is also low in fat and healthier than a lot of other meatsBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I use Delia's basic white loaf recipe. It uses the yeast that comes in sachets. You can buy this in bigger packets by the way-Jordans do it (in an orange packet). I usually substitute half to two-thirds of the flour for wholemeal flour, or I use all granary flour. I don't bother warming the flour first, just put all the dry ingredients in a big bowl, add water, mix and knead.
I triple the recipe (using 2kg flour) and divide it between four 2lb loaf tins. It takes about 5-10 mins to do all the measuring and kneading. Two hours to rise, another couple of minutes to put it in the tins, half an hour to prove and 40 mins to bake. All four loaves go in the oven at once on one shelf. I freeze them when cool so there is always bread available.
This is a good soft roll recipe which I use for lunchboxes.
I don't know what to say about you not wanting to get your hands sticky I'm afraid.
By the way if anyone is looking for help hand baking bread try searching the board. I know I've written many posts on the subject and posted many links to Delia's recipe above. The thread from which the soft roll recipe is taken would be a good place to start.0 -
The budgets they set them are a lot lower than what they've been spending to start with
TrueI still don't think it's very realistic though - they seem to have gone out of their way to find families who really spend a lot, which I don't think is in line with most people! Thus the whole show - though it does have some good ideas - seem irrelevant to me, and a lot of people imo

Kneading dough is very therapeutic (and a great arm work-out!) - and if you seriously can't handle it, stick to ciabatta or some other 'wet' dough bread
- you don't touch the dough that way.

Wasn't it that mixamytosis (sp?) that stopped people eating rabbit?
It was rampant for a while wasn't it?0 -
