Who gives first feedback?

I don't agree with people who say: You leave me feedback first then I will do the same for you. If I see a listing stating that, I ignore it ie I do not buy from that seller.
Feedback is there to reflect our experience with transaction so if a buyer paid, what is there to wait for? Why should a buyer leave a feedback first?
Anyway, that is my opinion before someone jumps at me.

    A chargeback?

  • I have 2 different ebay accounts, one with over 1500 feedback and the other with about 160 feedback.
The account with 1500 feedback I have always waited for the buyer to leave me feedback so that I know they have a) received the item and b)they are happy with the item. The same way I leave feedback as a buyer once I have received an item. This way I find a lot of buyers don't bother to leave feedback as they must be waiting for mine first.
The other account, I have started to leave the buyer feedback as soon as I have posted the item and find that the buyer seems more willing to leave feedback once they have received the item.

You have obviously never met the buyers from hell.

Feedback should be left by the buyer upon receipt of the item once they have checked it over and are happy with it. That THEN signifies to the seller that the transaction is complete.

Anyway since sellers can't now neg buyers then there is not really much point in giving buyers feedback. 99% of buyers on Amazon never get feedback.

If a seller does all that is required then I am only to happy to leave them good feedback.

Feedback for buyers now is a bit like getting a gold star from the teacher. Makes you feel good but not worth a hell of a lot more than that.

Its all about perceptions. Leaving feedback immediately after getting payment (for some reason) increases buyer satisfaction and helps for repeat business. There might not be an explanation for it but it is the case.

If I buy an item and the seller doesn't leave feedback first then I won't leave feedback

I do the same if a buyer doesn't leave feedback first. I just forget about it and wait for it to drop off my feedback page. As a buyer I leave feedback when I have received and am happy with the item.

Like has been said already, a chargeback for one thing. A buyer could turn out to be a complete nutter (for example leaving a neg because you charged more than stamp price postage), or one of the increasing number who abuse Paypal to defraud sellers. I'm sorry you have to wait for your feedback, but I'd rather not give someone a positive comment and a big green plus racked up on their score till I know they are happy with the transaction.

The buyer leaves first. Seller leaves when they've got feedback (if at all... seller-left feedback's pointless anyway).

As a buyers point of view I would expect to be the first to give feedback, then the seller, knowing that I'm not some crazed loon waiting to raise some bizarre issue would then leave me feedback to say I paid promptly yada yada.

I would find it weird being left feedback immediately after purchasing - but I wouldn't think the sellers were bad people. I just wonder why they don't save it to see if there are some freaky issues raised by buyers - "never received item", 99p vintage top has been worn before, etc etc!
    I love surprises!

    I still don't agree. :D
If a buyer pays - he has completed his part of transaction and you, as a seller leave appropriate feedback. So what if he is a buyer from hell and doesn't like/want/(or whatever else) his purchase, that has nothing with the feedback seller should leave. And that is why Ebay got the rule that you can't leave negative feedback for a buyer, and rightly so. Because even though that a buyer has paid, sellers would leave negatives regarding everything else but the payment made. And that is wrong. Buyer has completed transaction by paying, seller completes it by sending the goods.

    Whaaaaat??
Ok, go back three years to the time when sellers could still leave negs.

You sell an item, send it. The buyer then turns out to be said buyer from hell. Abusive, nagging, phones you at 2am to scream at you for overcharging postage by 20p.

You're saying you'd leave them a pos, because they PAID?
