I lost my perfect feedback for trying too hard to please

I just cannot believe how harsh some people are with their feedback.I had all green positives and I try very hard to keep it that way.I have just lost my perfect record because a buyer basically doesnt like my taste in perfume:rolleyes:
Whenever I sell an item of clothing or handbag etc I wrap it nicely in tissue paper and add a little thank you card(business card size)to the parcel and spray it(one squirt)with a perfume, usually my fav D&G "the one",so it looks special and smells nice when opened. Then I put it in a plastic mail bag to post.
I just got a neutral saying nice item as described but parcel smelled very strongly of perfume when opened.
I think the customer maybe doesnt appreciate my taste in perfume:rolleyes:
I feel its a bit unfair as I was only trying to make the purchase more special.I started doing it after I was pleased and surprised to open a package from ebay which was tissue wrapped with perfumed card and even had a handmade paper rose decorating it.I thought it was lovely the seller had went to so much trouble to make me happy.
Does anyone else do this or have any views about it,does anyone else detest D&G perfume:o

I suppose if it is an item of clothing or something, perhaps they aren't taking it as a kind gesture to make the parcel smell nice, perhaps they are seeing it as a sign that the item is used, thinking that the perfume smell is the clothing item itself?
Have to admit, I used to go to all that trouble with tissue paper, smaller items in tiny organza bags etc, but I stopped bothering when my DSRs took a hit fr the price of the P+P, and brought my P+P prices right down as low as poss.
Also, if its' a neutral it won't affect your 100% rating.0 -
I know your intentions are well but I am not sure if I would appreciate the strong smell of perfume in a package that I received as I detest strong smells like that.
The 'thank you' card is fine but why the perfume?
Perfume is a very personal thing, not everyone likes the smell of one or the other...
The buyer might have felt that if you sold something as new and it comes smelling of perfume that it might have been worn....0 -
nice idea and i tried the same sort of thing. I used to add 1p sweets to mine (wrapped and in date!) but stopped doing so when i realised in todays culture i may get sued for someone a. choking on it. b. making up some ridiculous story!
So i stopped doing it. They buy the item, that's all they get.0 -
Oh it is still at 100%,thanks,I just saw the grey neutral dot and assumed that was going to ruin the feedback.
I will stop using the perfume,I didnt consider they might think I was trying to cover up a nasty smell with the perfume.
And I like ordering from firebox because they put a little pack of sweeties in the parcel, shame you had to stop that .I suppose not everyone likes extra surprises."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Its realy nice when you receive somethig a seller has taken care over packing. I received a lovely packaged item the other day which was to be a preset for my wife. It was realy appreciated
The perfume though could cause problems especially on clothes as people may assume its not been cleaned,0 -
When I was pregnant I couldnt stand the smell of any perfume, it made me feel sick - not sure I would have actually written it in feedback though!
I know its a nice gesture, but if I were you Id just stick to the Thank you cards & then you get more perfume for yourself x0 -
Oh honey, I feel your pain! It's horrid when you try your best and it's not appreciated. You're sharing your fave perfume and they're turning their nose up.
(Pun intended!)
What about burning a Yankee candle while you pack so that everything smells "nice" but not strong? The trouble with using a scent you know really well is that you'll hardly smell it - but it might be strong enough make someone elses' eyes water!
I have asthma and perfumey clothes in a mailing sack would set me right off coughing and wheezing.
I've never marked anybody down for it - because I accept it in the spirit it was given, as a nice touch - but I do hate it.
My daughter now opens all clothing parcels just in case.
S.O.P. is to give me a quick flash of it from about 20 feet away, then throw it straight into the washer for me!
Nine times out of ten I say "how does it smell?" and she says "Not bad, and not fags, but artificial and perfumey"
Then she washes her hands, and opens a window before pressing start on the washing machine.

It is a very kind gesture, but as others have said, maybe not to everyone's taste, or smell !!
I'm allergic to fragrance/perfume, so I'm coming to this from that point.
The card is a very nice idea, shame about the sweets, as I'm not allergic to them !!!Baby-Mechanic
The only reason I keep smiling is so that people wonder what I've been up to !!0 -
A friend of mine is also allergic to perfume, especially ones with musk. Makes her really ill.0

Me too, even though I'm vegetarian and got sent jelly sweets, still though it was a nice touch.shelovestobuystuff wrote: »And I like ordering from firebox because they put a little pack of sweeties in the parcel, shame you had to stop that .I suppose not everyone likes extra surprises.
As for the perfume, smell is so personal that it's risky- if something smelt of channel no.5 it would probably make me feel tense, since it's what my (incredibly stressful) grandma wears, and that would give a subconcious bad feeling about the whole thing. I don't think I know anyone who wears D&G so you'd probably get away with it from me.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.
