Been after a new phone for a while to replace my N95 (excellent). I ned to move to Voda (reception reasons) I basically want a phone to do everything my N95 does but with a better browser.

I need - gps, radio, email, camera, 300 mins, internet.

I'm not wild about the screen on the N97 but not much else seems to tick all the boxes (maybe the i8910 but its massive and expensive)

I was considering going for the offer on the Voda website with teh 5800 that works out about £20/m after quidco. I was thinking of living with the 5800 for a bit but if it does not satisfy me, flogging it (£150 on ebay) buying the N97 on three PAYG for £360, unlocking it and putting voda sim in it.

    This would give me:

600 mins, lots text, internet, N97 for about £32/m - all costs over an 18m period.

Good idea? Anyone go from N95 to 5800 - was it OK?

    Hi da_murphster,

As Malky mentions the eForum is best place to get an idea about whether the N97 is for you or not.

To makes things easier for you there's a dedicated section on the eForum for the N97 which you can find here.

    Thanks,

I've just taken out a contract for one of these on behalf of my son and two days later it's going back in the box. It's crashed more times than he cares to remember and they've not been able to port his phone number over so they've said it has to go back and we have to re-order.

We won't be ordering again, their customer service is abysmal. I asked the girl to pass on my concerns and she said I'd have to write and do that myself!!!!

I consider it a narrow escape and will go back to o2. A case of 'better the devil you know'.

Do not go for the N97.

Constant crashing, camera lens protector damages the camera lens making pictures with flash on abysmal.

Very slow and many, many bugs. I debranded it as well and updated to V11 which was supposed to have sorted out over 100 bugs.

The N86 is supposed to be the same as well.

I am an independant retailer and will not supply this phone. I used one myself for a week, going from a problematical N96 and have changed to a SonyEricsson W995, which suprisingly is great.

The 5800 is my best seller and i have had 1 problem out of the 200 odd i have sold. Great phone but i am liking the W995.

Be careful of android based phones as they have high data usage and if you go abroad may be inadvertantly hit with a massive bill.

  • Well finally got offered a good deal on a HTC Magic on Vodafone. I totally agree with peoples comments about their customer service - I was actually hung up on by one of their reps for no reason. If it was not for the fact I get no reception at work I would definitely have stayed with O2 - much better for retentions and upgrades.

Given up on N97 - had a play in the shop and it just did not justify the money. I am aware of the limitations of the magic but I got it cheap enough to be worth a stab!

Whatever the problems with the phone, you can expect far worse from the network. It must be plain to everyone reading all the threads on them just how awful they are now. The only time you get any kind of service is when you don't need to talk with them. When you do the nightmares start - and go on forever. They promise to do things then don't; fob you off when you ask to speak with a manager and then totally refuse; never call you back as promised and rarely answer the phone in the first place. It appears (according to the rep who's suddenly popped up on here in an apparent attempt to portray good customer service) that you now have to go through their internet forum to get anything done rather than simply PHONE them as any customer has a right to expect! I have also found formal complaints are dealt with exactly the same - with utter contempt for their customers.

They have done so much damage (as E2Save did) that it would take a MAJOR change in practice over a LONG period of time before I will give them the time of day.

Well Ofcoms General Condition and code of practice comes in to force shortly so if everyone who has been missold complains to Ofcom, they may get hit with a 10% of Turnover fine. May force them to very quickly clean up thier act.
