Been after a new phone for a while to replace my N95 (excellent). I ned to move to Voda (reception reasons) I basically want a phone to do everything my N95 does but with a better browser.

I need - gps, radio, email, camera, 300 mins, internet.

I'm not wild about the screen on the N97 but not much else seems to tick all the boxes (maybe the i8910 but its massive and expensive)

I was considering going for the offer on the Voda website with teh 5800 that works out about £20/m after quidco. I was thinking of living with the 5800 for a bit but if it does not satisfy me, flogging it (£150 on ebay) buying the N97 on three PAYG for £360, unlocking it and putting voda sim in it.

This would give me:

600 mins, lots text, internet, N97 for about £32/m - all costs over an 18m period.

Good idea? Anyone go from N95 to 5800 - was it OK?

I struggled to find a phone to upgrade from an N95 too as the N95 was such a great phone. Now have an HTC Magic and haven't looked back. Android operating system is spot on. You can install custom ROMS no problem so not stuck with manufacturers software. The Android market is coming on in leaps and bounds and loads of the apps are free.

The n97 is a pretty good phone, its so much better in person than looking at pictures. My bro got his last week with vodafone, I would suggest you go into a store and demo one as much as you can.

I had a play with the magic and did really like it but:

No navigation apps (correct me if I'm wrong)
No radio (can stream but Voda have rubbish internet allowance)

If you like the magic there is a new HTC hero that is, by all accounts, better than the magic.

Eating my words here - nav is now out - and at a reasonable £25

Might re-visit this phone - I know the Hero is supposed to be good (same internals) but will obviously be more expensive!

I've generally been happy with O2 (esp there retentions deals) but am forced to vodafone as its the only network with reception in N Wales and S of Reading where I work.

Vodafone decent deals seem non-existent (comparatively) and there are lots of unhappy customers - they always used to be considered the best!

I might do some more work to see if I can go to another network - 3 and O2 are definitely out, Orange - no data, T-mob - no coverage, virgin - nothing!

All i would say about getting a phone on vodafone is go and have a look at the eforums on vodafones own website, here you will find out if and the nature of any problems there are with phones on vodafone. These all come from people who already have the phones and have experienced any problems. I say this as i got a n96 from vodafone and i wish i knew abiut the eforums before as i would have found out about all the problems this phone has due to the vodafone firmware. Which vodafone thenseleves are not in a hurry to update therefore leaving alot of customers unhappy with phones that do not work as they should

I had the above prob on my N95 - I de-networked it and then could upgrade about 4 firmware versions - it was like having a new phone.

I would look to be doing the same on any new phone.

By calling retentions i have just ben offered the magic or E71 for £20/m which sounds good for me.

Any suggestions which I should go for? Tempted by Magic for internet use - had a play on the mrs iPhone yesterday and typing on the screen did not seem too bad.

    This is very interesting thread.
I would also like internet, but with Wi-fi. The same problem - Orange no data otherwise I don't care.
Iphone - not so sure, seems expensive and long contract for phone doing a job that many other phones can do? What is your thoughts? Also doesn't have a stylus.
Currently looking into Nokia 5800. Anyone can recommend or otherwise please.

Da_murphster - sorry for hijacking your thread. Hope you don't mind.
