I read a very interesting online article a few years ago about this very subject.
The research team did some tests and proved that chemicals were left behind on unrinsed dishes along with minute traces of food particles which came from the washing water.
I was always a rinser anyway, but OH wasn't so I took great delight in showing him what I'd read. He now rinses in front of me although I know fine well he doesn't if I'm not around. :rolleyes:
