I've never seen the point of rinsing, just a waste of water.Stompa0

Rinser here!
BH never rinses and I agree, you can see a 'film' and/or spots on the ones he's done - mine are the nice shiny ones, lol.0 -
I just rinse the cups and glasses, nothing else. Having had my mil stay for a couple of days recently, I now know why she rinses everything. I have never seen someone use so much washing up liquid. Before she comes next time I am watering it down!0

This is a huge pet peeve of mine! I ALWAYS rinse. You wouldn't put shampoo in your hair and then get out of the shower, so why not rinse your dishes?
I don't think it's the same thing at all. When you have a bath do you have a shower afterwords? As another poster said her MIL needs to rinse because she uses lots of soap. I use as little soap as is needed and don't rinse unless the individual dish requires it (vases for instance).
It's only a game

I only occasionally rinse individual items if they seem to need it; generally speaking I don't bother. If I do, it's usually things like whisky glasses - as another poster mentioned, I wash the least dirty items first.
I'm also very stingy with the washing up liquid, so don't have oodles of suds to wash away.
Drying Up? Nah - life's too short. I'll only dry something if a) I've run out of draining board space or b) I want to use it again straight away.
ETA: I do sluice the dinner plates etc before they go in the bowl - I have an absolute loathing of bits in the washing up water, mainly I guess because I don't use rubber gloves (can't get on with them, I drop things if I use gloves). If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I always rinse. Surely the soap leaves some kind of residue on crockery if not washed off and surely you will ingest minute quantities of the chemicals?0

Actually Japanese people do just that but in reverse: have a soapy wash/shower first to remove dirt, then once clean they step in the bath (to soak and relax their clean bodies)! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I always rinse..... the idea of washing my plates and cutlery in grimy, greasy water , that only has a tiny amount of liquid and then letting all this scum just dry on the plate is totally unhygienic:eek: Those of u who cannot tell the difference are probably very used it. But I can tell when things have not been rinsed.
This is one reason why I don't like baths..... the idea of sitting in my own "dirty" water to get myself clean is a no no.... I only have a bath when want to relax and then have a quick shower afterwards. And no I do not waste water, I have a very quick shower every day which uses very little water. Unlike having a bath frequently that uses loads of it. Also I try and save water as often as I can. My washing up rinsing water for example is then used to water the garden!
To me not rinsing is like spraying your windows with a cleaner and then not wiping hard enough until you can see clearly through them - what is the point in getting things half clean?
Just my humble opinion.....0 -
Always rinse mine in cold water. I find the thought of eating or drinking from anything that has not had the washing-up liquid rinsed off quite disgusting.
I can always smell when things haven't been rinsed.
Who wants to ingest chemicals when you can easily avoid it? Ok, so it's only minute traces - but it's minute traces 1,000s of times in your life.0
