It's petrol. Very economical to run, both with petrol and oil apparently.

As you say, I am confident of how it has run so far but will it last another 6 months if it has 140k on the clock?!

Hopefully!!!!!! (if it was on it's way out it would have had other things go wrong by now surely?!)

    Million mile car.

A car can keep going and going as long as it has been looked after. A lot of my friends have very high mileage cars because they are young and all they can afford. Some are 170,000+ and still going strong. As long as the car has been looked after and has a full (if not almost full) service history mileage wouldn't put me off buying.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

This is why she is going to replace it with a brand new Ibiza.

Is there a reason why she is not using it to get her £2,000 off the new Ibiza under the scrappage scheme?

it may not be brand new it may be a year or two old?

but the car at 140k is nothing its done a good yearly average and as mentioned previously the service history is more important than the mileage as long as it has been maintained it should be good to go, but at £200 even if it only lasts a few months and you scrap it you'll get £50 scrap maybe more
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

I drive Ford Sierras, their odometer only has five numbers because Ford assumed the car would only last 100,000 miles. My current one was built in 1992 and has done 105K, my first one was built in 1987 and has done only 140K.

My last Sierra had done 190K and I was trying to get it to 200K. It was very well maintained (twice yearly service, any repair that needed doing was done) and it ran beautifully. A little too beautifully; when hotwired by joyriders over Easter it started fine and drove beautifully out of the car park.

Personally I wouldn't buy a car over 80k, but thats just me. I'd be spending more than £200 on a car though so it would bother me slightly more, for £200 I think your getting a bargain. Even if it does completely collapse you haven't lost much.

How it's been treated and regular servicing is far more important than miles though.

It's quite nice reading the replies here as I always worry about the mileage on my car (just hit 118k :() and I know if/when I come to sell it, it'll be worth nothing. I don't want to sell it as love it, but know it won't last forever! If I remember correctly it was on just under 80k when I bought it, but my last job involved a lot of driving so that didn't help. It's really reliable and I get it serviced regularly, so fingers crossed it'll keep going for a while.

  • As others have said, it depends on the car and whether it's been well maintained. If you know the history then 140K shouldn't worry you - it'll be harder to sell it on to someone else, but as you're only paying £200 you haven't really got anything to lose. Pay the money, sign up for the AA and you should be quids in.

Dunno about Seats but on a Saab, 140k is just nicely run in.
