What's the absolute maximum mileage that you would have on a car?

Hi everyone
My friend is prepared to sell me her M reg Seat Ibiza next month for £200. It is in perfect condition (her brother is also a mechanic and he purchased it on her behalf a number of years ago).
She's never had ANY problems with the car, and it's cost her no more than an MOT and an annual service each year. This is why she is going to replace it with a brand new Ibiza.
The only problem is, the mileage is 140k. I know that is a lot but up to now the car has been super reliable and it's only £200 in the first place (plus £450 insurance). If it lasted me 6 months I would be happy (my first car so once I feel more confident and saved up some cash I would buy a newer car).
What do you think? thanks everyone.

diesel or petrol ?
mileage wouldnt really put me off tbh, service history and how its been looked after is what i would look for.
you couldnt hire a car for £650 for the 6 monthsSealed pot challenger # 10

It's petrol. Very economical to run, both with petrol and oil apparently.
As you say, I am confident of how it has run so far but will it last another 6 months if it has 140k on the clock?!
Hopefully!!!!!! (if it was on it's way out it would have had other things go wrong by now surely?!)Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0

my last citroen had more than double than that when i got rid, mileage is not as important as how its been cared for and the type of miles its done, i would much rather have a car with 140 thats done all motorway miles than one thats been used for going to the shops and back for 15 years with 70k on it0

I borrowed a Diesel Passat off a friend for a week recently in Spain. It had 202,000 miles so I was a bit worried. Went well though.
apart from the ac which was not working....0 -
Excellent. Nice to get some reassurance on the matter! Really looking forward to getting this car. Didn't want to spend much but never thought I would get a decent car for £200! It really is in such good condition.Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0

140,000 is nothing at all. Condition is far more important than mileage. Mine has 229,000 miles and is fine. This one has 540,000 miles - and is still running:

It would seem you cant go wrong at £200 if it lasts a couple of weeks its cheaper than hiring one for that period. The insurance will be to pay on whatever car you get so for an outlay of £200 it is worth a gamble if you know and trust the previous owner has had it serviced and looked after it.0

If her brother's a mechanic and they've looked after it properly (mainly regular oil and filter changes every year as a maximum time interval regardless of mileage) then the engine should be in a good condition. It's encouraging that it's had no problems yet given the age.0
