Last Minute Bids

It really depends what you're looking at. If it's something that's very common then it's a fair bet that they'll go at a certain price and there's no point sniping.
If it's something that's less common, or with a fairly limited market then it can be worth not showing your hand too soon. What goes around - comes around0 -
Just bid your highest as close to the end as possible. You will NEVER lose an auction to somebody bidding less than your maximum.manhattan wrote:i spoke too soon! lol
just missed an auction in the last few seconds,i placed a bid at 22 seconds just one highest bid ,i had a second window open and it went through straight away but it said the auction had ended! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................
there must have been some sort of time delay or advance as i definatly refreshed at 22 seconds then immediatly bid!Can I help?0 -
I've just realised I won't be here when the bidding ends so I'm going to set my maximum bid to slightly over what the last one went for and hope for the best.
Thanks0 -

tbh thats the best method, if you pop a bid in close to what is there all it will do is bump the price and you will prb get outbid.
But if you do the larger max, if someone else really wants it they will bid more than you and you can be safe in the knowledge they over paid for it.
auction sentry - tried it but not sure how good it is.
I have the miss spelling info too if anyone wants it rather than buying it from ebay. PM me and i will send it to you.
check out all these sellers selling it....

you can use https://www.ebaymobile.co.uk on your mobile if you wish to bid 'on the move'?0 -
How would it "fall down"? It would work perfectly, with the highest bidder winning the auction, exactly as it is supposed to.LULUBELLE wrote:For example, if everyone used snipers, the whole sniper thing would fall down, because everyone would set their sniper for 5/6 seconds.
Sorry, but you are wrong. The highest bidder wins the auction. If you bid more than anybody else, you will win the auction. End of.LULUBELLE wrote:there's no such thing as a deadcert way to bid on Ebay.
In terms of tactics, there are only 3 things which you should do on any eBay auction - (1) Bid once, and only once on any auction (2) bid the highest amount which you would be willing to pay (3) bid as late as possible.

I totally agree with the above (over six years on eBay) and never bid any other way.
The one thing I'd add is to be wary of little-known sniping services. You have to give them your eBay ID and password and there's a risk that, even if they themselves are 100% legit, their security may leave something to be desired. Can I help?0 -

Lol! :rotfl: Exactly - as I said, there's no deadcert way to win an auction, because you won't know, until it's finished, whether you are the highest bidder - you could be outbid at the last second.I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.0 -

I'd go with points 1 and 2 mainly because it's just easier to bid the max amount you're willing to pay and then leaving it til the end to see if you win. Don't think point 3 matters much if you have a set max bid, so I guess bid earlier if anything.I'm better off without you.0
