3 mobile - complete rubbish

Options
I unfortunately took out an 18month contract with 3 mobile back in February this year. I took one of their own make type phones with the contract an iNQ (antoher big mistake it is useless, keeps closing down and skipping instructions).
I can very rarely get a signal unless I am out and about in a main town or built up area, and never inside my work or home. I can hardly ever log into emails and stuff. The only thing I have had any luck on is ebay, but even that is a lucky connection most times.
I complained to 3 mobile but was fobbed off by them (we've got you now!).
Is there any way I break the contract for free, especially given that as far as I am concerned they are not providing a decent service?
DO NOT BUY OR USE 3 MOBILE. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

If you are getting such poor signal at your home address i'm presuming you have had this from the moment you purchased the phone? And therefore returned the handset immediately?

3 offer a 14day return policy due to coverage and if you receive NO signal at home or work (this can be checked very quickly in any 3store) then you would have been disconnected immediately.

Perhaps you could confirm the issue you had returning the item as it's unclear from your original post.

Taken you five months to realise you have poor signal? Good luck with getting out of your contract...

It shouldn't take more than five minutes.
  • I have to say we renewed our contract with Three in March. Were positively encouraged to go with the INQ1. To be fair things were ok but now the phones are randomly shutting down and now my other halfs phone boots up, then shuts down and then when he reboots, it'll shut down during a call.

Utter rubbish these phones are. Wish we'd stuck to a proper brand.

I've taken them back and asked for new handsets. The contract I wasn't fussed about getting out of. Just wanted to go back to Nokia's. Three have refused and have sent them off for repair, but the girl in the shop did let slip that the INQ1 is very unstable as not established brand.

I'm in such a mood with three for terrible customer service, so am thinking of breaking my contract and seeing them in court.

Don't ! They will win, it will cost you a lot of money to defend, you will almost certainly get a ccj and your credit record will be tarnished.

You MUST keep in a dialogue with them (to show you were reasonable) and if you feel you have sufficient grounds under Sale of Goods, then you must initiate any action with a LBA.

Try a different phone if it's a phone problem. Where 3 don't have coverage, they use o2 and to be honest there has never been a time when I have not been able to make a call. Sometimes my phone HTC P3600 does jump from 3g to o2 but it's pretty quick. My wife has a nokia and that has no problem with signal however we tried a sony ericsson and that was a different.

Sometimes it is the mobile and sometimes it's the network...but for me mostly on 3 it's been the mobiles that caused the issues.

Had that fault with the INQ1 too. Luckily it happened within two weeks of me having the phone, so I took it back, got a refund and went straight to a different provider. (who my mum, my sister, her wife and myself have used in the past for PAYG and contract and not had a problem)

OP, you should have been able to find out in the first 7 days if signal would be a problem when at home or at work. Then you could have sent it back under DSR rules, or if taken out in store, cancelled the contract within 14 days and paid any charges on the account. However, its been FIVE months. You don't have a hope in hell of getting a refund. All you can do is go on ebay and get a different phone and use that (preferably a nokia, they seem to be most reliable on 3 when getting a signal - and two bars is better than nothing isn't it?) until your contract ends.
